If fairyland really existed, Crystal Castles would be the official anthem…
With their unreal, tortured, yet melodic, electro pop, Ethan Kath and his assistant Alice Glass have created dense, childlike atmospheres, somewhere between Joy Division and Fischerspooner. Their new album got excellent press reviews, and the Canadians are back on stage, at the Rockhal Club, on 27th October!
The band name, “Crystal Castles”, is inspired by a fictional castle from the animated cartoon She-Ra - Princess of Power, not by the Atari 8-bit video game. Nevertheless, this band from Toronto uses a lot of digital, Gameboy and Nintendo-like sounds. In 2004, Ethan Fawn and Alice Glass caught our attention with their singles “Alice Practice”. A lot of kids became fans, and record labels, sensing the potential of this band, scrambled to get them.
In spring 2008 they released an eponymous album, they made it to the NME top 10, toured with Metric and Nine Inch Nails, and headlined Vice Magazine’s tour of Britain. They appeared in the series SKINS, and more and more electro fans put them on their iPods. Looking closely at it, Crystal Castles are a real phenomenon: they make dark, wild, yet absolutely danceable electro music, and countless DJs remixed their tunes. Today Ethan and his accomplice are back with a new album which has already invaded the internet. Even though it has more pop elements, the style remains just as rhythmic and balanced between electro, punk and rock.
The real strength and subtlety of Crystal Castles shows on stage, and Alice’s passion for stage diving only increases Crystal Castles’ position as one of the most up-to-date and promising electro bands...
The date is set: on 27th October, the Rockhal Club will be ravaged by a tornado called Crystal Castles...
