ELECTRICITY 2008 with: GORILLAZ Sound System

In December 2007, the Rockhal organised the first Luxembourg edition of the Electricity festival, a festival with a well-established name in Germany and a reputation already made. With artists of international renown (Mousse T, Hell, T.Raumschmiere, Goose and others) as well as many local performers, that first edition was a great success.
This year, for the second edition, the bill is topped by GORILLAZ Sound System, a collective of DJs led by Damon Albarn and his band. An altogether outstanding visual and sensory experience!

GORILLAZ SOUND SYSTEM (UK)
Once upon a time … there was a blue planet run by some dreadful prefabricated pop groups which, apart from immense chaos, succeeded in creating nothing special. From that chaos emerged Gorillaz: four intrepid heroes, joined together like the fingers on a hand, came to save the world.
They were called 2-D, Murdoc Nicalls, Noodle and Russel Hobbs. But behind these names are concealed some of the most influential artists of recent years, like Damon Albarn (Blur), Danger Mouse, Dan the Automator and Simon Tong (The Verve), not forgetting the genial designer Jamie Hewlett.
And in their wake, headphones over their ears and discs in their bandoliers, appeared Gorillaz Sound System, the ultimate audio-visual experience! With numbers which will have you tapping your feet and visuals you will find difficult to forget, Gorillaz Sound System is the guarantee of an absolutely sensational evening which you will not repeat for a long time. London and Berlin have already seen the extents to which these folk go … and Luxembourg is next on the list!

SISTER BLISS (UK) is well known in the musical world as she is one of the thinking heads of the group Faithless. During those rare moments of calm with Faithless, the pretty Sister Bliss took the time to entertain herself a little, remixing some of her friends or writing film scores. Recognised as one of the best DJ’s in the world, she is considered to have opened the doors for female DJing.

SHAMEBOY (B) left such a mark on the last electronic 24 hours that it is perfectly naturally for them to be called upon to discharge those electro-house sounds for the second edition of Electricity. Although the album “Heartcore” brought them to the attention of a wide audience, their fiery sets are what really made their reputation. These days this Belgian duo are kings of the dance floor … and don’t plan to stay there!

THE BLOODY BEETROOTS (I) are the latest European electro sensation, about whom everyone is talking and, there is no doubt, with the promise of a great future. Already compared to the French group Justice, the Bloody Beetroots offer a DJ set combining nu-rave and punk, all of that sustained by numerous old-school samples. A surprise from Italy and an absolute must to be seen!

MISSILL (F) is an artist of just 25 years, always on the up, bubbly and overflowing with energy. A true pyromaniac of the dance floor and presented as the spiritual daughter of 2 Many DJ’s, her mix is the image of her artwork: electric, sexy and unrestrained! “Targets”, her first album, was released last Marchh on the Discograph label.

MAXWELL GEORGE (UK/LUX) is without argument one of the precursors of the DJ scene in Luxembourg. His energy, experience and way of anticipating the requests of an ever more demanding audience have made him one of the most famous DJs and one of the most requested in the country.

DJ SAV (LUX) is one of the most active in Luxembourg: someone who has spun his discs in a great many clubs in the Greater Region, every time with impressive success. He has played with the greatest, from Tomcraft to David Carretta via Agoria and The Youngsters.

ARTABAN (LUX) is a new lux project created by two brothers well-known in the country. Their music could be defined as a cross between Röyksopp and Boards of Canada. They were @ Rockhal with M83 few weeks ago ; they will come back in december to present their first album called "Landscapes".

FLASHY ROCK (LUX) is a rather new project (2007), but already today considered the new local sensation. Between Justice and Daft Punk, the shows by this colourful duo sometimes resemble more a rock concert than a disco evening. And nobody’s complaining!

Note also that the DJs from the magazine Luxuriant will close the programme in the Club and that the Rockhalicious will be entirely in the hands of the DJ collective ODD.LU
L’Essentiel is looking for the best DJ in the Greater Region!
Together with the daily L’Essentiel, our event partner, we have launched a competition which will enable you, as a lover of electronic music and a budding DJ, to perform yourself on 19 December on one of the stages at the Rockhal. To do so, nothing could be easier. You just have to end a sample mix, one minute long in mp3 format, to the address event(at)lessentiel.lu giving your name, age and telephone number.
And it will be the readers of the paper who will choose the DJ to perform this evening!
