AMY MACDONALD & THE GERMAN RADIO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

Main Hall

5, avenue du Rock'n'Roll, Esch, Alzette Luxembourg L-4361Doors: 19.00 hrs
SR 1 Europawelle, the pop radio of the Saarland Broadcasting Corporation, and the Rockhal present the first concert of their new series “Premium Live”: Right at the outset, a world premiere with shooting star Amy Macdonald from Scotland, who is going to play a sensational concert with her band and the German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (DRP). On Sunday, 17th October, at 8 p.m., Amy Macdonald is going to present an orchestral edition of successful songs from her number one albums “This is the Life” and “A Curious Thing” on stage, together with the first class orchestra of the Saarland Broadcasting Corporation (SR). Gast Waltzing, who also wrote the scores for the symphonic arrangement of the pop songs, will act as guest conductor.
Over the last two years, 22-year-old Amy Macdonald from Scotland has become a European superstar. Her albums were awarded platinum in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium. Last year, Amy Macdonald won the Echo, Germany’s most important music award, in the category “Best International Newcomer”. With about 900,000 copies of her first album “This is the Life” sold, she is Britain’s most successful newcomer of the last decade.
This concert at the Rockhal is the first of a common series “Premium Live”, which will present more concerts of superior pop musicians together with the German Radio Philharmonic over the next years. Moreover, it is a world premiere: For the very first time, the singer works with a philharmonic orchestra. But it’s also new ground for the orchestra itself. Luxembourgian composer and conductor Gast Waltzing wrote the orchestral adaptation for this concert. This great experience will most certainly be more than just another “pop meets classic” event.
The German Radio Philharmonic Orchestra is one of Germany‘s leading orchestras. It is built on the tradition-steeped history of the Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO) of the Saarland Broadcasting Corporation and the Kaiserslautern Radio Orchestra (SWR). It is highly appreciated on an international level for its varied repertoire and its extraordinary programs and CD productions.
The concert on 17th October at the Rockhal traces back to an initiative by the ARD pop radio station SR1 Europawelle (SR). The Saarland Broadcasting Corporation will record the concert for radio and TV transmission. Amy Macdonald’s label, Universal International, is planning to use the recordings for her third album which is to be released in December.
