be a HEARo: Pop/Rock Concerts & Music Workshops for Kids
Guided listening sessions:
During the guided concert listening sessions at the Club of the Rockhal, organized in partnership with the SCRIPT - Service de Coordination de la Recherche et de l'innovation pédagogiques et technologiques, and dedicated to school classes, the X-Ray Orchestra will present the audience with the key elements of pop/rock songs. Through a series of exercises, quizzes and interactive games, the listening capacities of the young ones will be tested in a playful manner. The band will perform popular and modern hits by artists such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, DNCE or Mark Forster.
The concert will not only be based on content featuring in books of the official musical education programme, illustrated by live music, but high quality projections will transform this show into a real Edutainment event. This original and interactive concept will help children to get a deeper understanding of how a modern pop/rock band operates on stage and to come to grips with concepts such as rhythm, melody and harmony, enabling them to acquire an adapted vocabulary to speak about music in an objective way.
Target audience: school classes with pupils aged 10 - 12 ("Cycles" 3.2, 4.1 & 4.2 of fundamental school)
3 shows: 30, 31 May & 01 June, from 09.30 to 11.00 at the Club of the Rockhal

Next to the guided concert listening sessions, Rocklab will also organize a number of workshops highlighting the same topic in a more detailed way. In order to convey a better understanding of how a pop/rock band and their instruments work, the different instrument groups will be singled out and each one will be carefully examined during a series of workshops in which school classes, Maison Relais and families can participate.
During several interactive and playful group exercises, the participants will thus get a closer look at how percussion (drums), voice and stringed instruments (guitar & bass) work and what lies behind such concepts as rhythm, melody and harmony. How to create a rhythm with body percussion, how to change the sound of a stringed instrument using guitar effect pedals, how to come up with the right backing vocals to support the lead singer - the X-Ray orchestra will tackle these and more elements during their demonstrations before recomposing an entire song live on stage during a small concert. Furthermore, Rocklab offers a guided tour of the Rockhal, where participants can catch a glimpse behind the scenes of Luxembourg's major concert venue and learn more about the different jobs that are involved when it comes to organizing a concert.
Target audience: school classes, Maison Relais, families with children aged 08 - 12
