Joe Cocker has gone a long way since his first hit in 1968, “With a Little Help from My Friends”. With his talent and his inimitable, raspy voice, the star of Woodstock 69 went through all these years to become a legend of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Today, Joe Cocker is back with his new album and will perform live at the Rockhal on 30th October, and this is what we call a concert not to be missed!

John Robert Cocker, who later became Joe Cocker, was born in Sheffield, England. He began his music career with the song “With a Little Help from My Friends” (1968), a blues version of a Beatles song. A year later, he took part in the Woodstock festival. After America, the entire world discovered his absolutely unique voice and style.

After a very successful tour in 1970, Joe Cocker had some problems with drugs and alcohol which forced him to put his music career on ice for almost 10 years. But Joe Cocker came back into the ring, stronger than ever, continuing his path where he had left it. His popularity in the States was as huge as in Europe, he dominated four decades, crunching them with his blues and rhythm’n’blues reprises.

With his always recognisable, coarse voice (as on “Bird on a Wire” by Leonard Cohen from the album “Sheffield Steel”), Joe Cocker became a specialist for reprises of the great standards, but he also did many sound tracks for cinema. Among others, he did the OST for Nine ½ Weeks with Kim Basinger, and for An Officer and a Gentleman with Richard Gere. More songs followed, and radio stations spread them worldwide (“Up where We Belong”, “When The Night Comes”, “You are So Beautiful”, “N'oubliez jamais”, and, of course, “Unchain my heart”). From his ranch in Colorado, this calm white man with the voice of a black soul man, who is still inspired by the great Ray Charles, keeps releasing albums and international hits. He has long become an icon of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Joe Cocker will come to Luxembourg for the very first time on 30th October, with his new album “Hard Knocks” (to be released on 1st October). Let this unique voice seduce you at the Rockhal’s Main Hall!
