The Rockhal is delighted to reveal that the legendary musician, composer, singer-songwriter, record producer and founding member of the rock icons The Velvet Underground, will be performing live on stage at the Rockhal on 21 October 2012. With a new album set for release in May this promises to be an unforgettable show!
Having started his career with The Velvet Underground together with Lou Reed in the 1960s, Cale remains an unstoppable force on the contemporary scene. Though best known for his work in rock music, Cale has worked in various genres including drone and classical. Since 1968 he has released approximately 30 albums. Of his solo work, Cale is perhaps best known for his album "Paris 1919", and his cover version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", plus his mid-1970s trilogy of albums: "Fear", "Slow Dazzle" and "Helen of Troy".
John Cale further is a highly valued producer. He started producing bands in the late Sixties, stood at the forefront when punk exploded and is still much in demand. He produced the debuts of The Stooges and Patti Smith. Other production achievements include the Happy Mondays, the Mediaeval Baebes, Nico and Siouxsie & The Banshees. From the nineties on providing movie soundtracks became an important part of his income. He has acted in a couple of movies and featured in a documentary about the recording of the "Words For The Dying" album and the visual biography John Cale: "An Exploration of His Life and Music".
Cale returned to rock in the 21st century, releasing a string of highly acclaimed EPs and albums and is hitting the road with a full backup band on a regular basis. An album entitled "Conflict & Catalysis" is about to be released, focusing on the studio output of John Cale's 40 year career. His latest EP "Extra Playful" gathered much critical attention. This show is going to coincide with the release of his highly anticipated and yet untitled latest studio album, which will contain brand new material for the first time since the "blackAcetate" LP in 2005.
