Avenged Sevenfold’s produce heavy metal music which is solidly linked to the foundations of hard rock and hardcore. After two independent albums, this quintet signed on Warner for the album “City of Evil” In 2005. The following record, “Avenged Sevenfold” hit the American and English charts in 2007. Losing Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan in 2009 during the recording sessions of “Nightmare” left the band in despair. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) replaced the deceased drummer on the album released in the summer of 2010.
Avenged Sevenfold were formed in Huntington Beach, California in 1999 by M. Shadows (vocals), Zacky Vengeance (guitar), Synyster Gates (bass) and The Rev (Jim Sullivan, drums).
With their hardcore and seventies hard rock influenced heavy metal, the quartet soon recorded their first Opus “Sounding The Seventh Trumpet”, which was released in July 2001 by the Good Life label. “Watching The Fallen” followed on Hopeless in 2003.
Interested by this band’s contagious on-stage energy, major label Warner signed them for their third album, “City of Evil”. With its single “Bat Country”, this record made it to the Billboard top 30; which earned Avenged Sevenfold a Best New Artist Award at the MTV Video Music Awards, one year later.
As they’re awaiting a much larger audience, the Californian band is forced to cancel an entire tour in order to finance the following record. This fourth, untitled and self-made album, which was released in late 2007, catapulted the singles “Almost Easy” to the fourth spot of the top 200.
As a major band of its generation, Avenged Sevenfold sell out the biggest venues and manage to gain a foothold in Great Britain where their album makes it to no. 5. After the Taste of Chaos Tour, Live In The NBC And Diamonds In The Rough is released during autumn 2008.
On 28th December 2009, the band is back at the studio for its sixth opus, and drummer Jimmy Sullivan, also known as The Rev, dies of a heart attack, leaving the band helpless. Nevertheless, Avenged Sevenfold finish recording “Nightmare” (which was released in July 2010 on Roadrunner) with temporary substitute Mike Portnoy (Dream Theatre). The band’s notoriety grows with each album. Today, AX7 are one of their generation’s major bands and considered as the refounders of metal core. If you can see one show this year, it MUST be Avenged Sevenfold. "Nightmare", No. 1 Album Around the World! On 12th November, they’re going to hit the Rockhal…
