CHRIS REA

CHRIS REA: 20:00 - 21:40
One of UK’s most foremost singers, songwriters and guitarists Chris Rea is set to return to the Rockhal on 10 March 2012 for the biggest pleasure of his fans. Recognisable for his distinctive, raspy voice and signature slide guitar, Rea’s performances at the Rockhal in 2006 and 2008 remained memorable in every aspect. Now he returns with the release of his first new material in over a decade.
In summary, Chris Rea's career spans 25 years, 23 albums and numerous singles and tours. Both the Road To Hell in 1989 and Auberge in 1991 debuted at No.1 in the UK, cementing his position as arguably one of the country’s best musicians and songwriters.
His journey into music has transcended into a variety of musical genres, including pop, rock, classical, jazz, and the blues. Rea’s rich catalogue includes such classic songs as Fool (If You Think It's Over), On The Beach, Let's Dance, Josephine, Stainsby Girls and I Can Hear Your Heartbeat, Working On It, The Road To Hell (Part 2), Auberge, God’s Great Banana Skin and Julia.
The 2012 European Tour will be in support of his new elaborate 3CD & 2DVD The Santo Spirito Project being released in September 2011. The box will include a brand new studio album and 2 bespoke feature films on DVD, written and directed by Chris. The first feature is a raw and brutally honest chronicle on bullfighting and features neo-classical and Spanish themed gypsy music and the second feature follows a man through the city of Florence in his search for the truth, on a journey which he may or may not wish he began.
Chris told the BBC News last year “ I cannot be bothered just making a CD any more. It has got to be something more interesting for me than just 10 tracks on CD“ and his vision to offer more than just his trademark slide guitar blues/rock is illustrated in the creative breadth and depth of The Santo Spirito Project.
Chris Rea remains one of the finest rock singers around and you have the opportunity to see him performing live on 10 March 2012 at the Rockhal. And by the way, 2012 will also be the publishing year of Chris Rea’s long awaited autobiography The Road To Hell & Back Again.
