It’s impossible to dissociate the Pogues and Shane MacGowan, so the fans were extremely happy to see good old Shane getting back together with England’s most famous folk rock band in 2001. The Pogues will be at the Rockhal Club on 30 July next!
The Pogues were formed in London in 1982. They were and will always be a thorn in the flesh of England’s cultural haute bourgeoisie, and today many envy them their status of a cult band. Not bad for a band made up of musicians who first met when they went begging in the streets of London!
During the last 30 years, the Pogues have seen it all: artistic success with their second album “Rum, sodomy & the lash”, huge internal problems because of the singer’s excessive lifestyle, public recognition, once again, with their Christmas song “Fairytale of New York”, which they recorded together with Kirsty McColl and became a number 1 hit in England. In 1991, MacGowan left the band.
In 2001, to the surprise of all, Shane MacGowan joined the Pogues again for a very successful Christmas tour in England. Ever since, the band has played concerts here and there, and many of them were memorable ones.
The Pogues will be at the Rockhal on 30 July, 2010!
