IAM

Rockhal Box

We all know what IAM means in English, but in Marseille, it simply stands for "invasion arriving from Marseille". This invasion will hit Luxembourg for the first time on 24 May 2013. They will make the Rockhal's walls shake with their Mediterranean rap, presenting their new album “IAM Morricone” written in collaboration with famous composer Ennio Morricone.
Before even being a group, IAM were a utopia born in the brain of a certain Akhenaton. The utopian dream of a rap group from Marseille which would be in no way inferior to its prestigious American role models. Since the very beginning, they were part of those who made French rap possible by importing and adapting this movement from New York. IAM, the best of all French rap groups proudly announced their first press file in 1990, when they entered the ring... 20 years later, they are still headliners!
The band's new opus is due for release on 22 April 2013 on Def Jam/Universal and samples melodies by the great film music composer Ennio Morricone. This opus called “IAM Morricone” is inspired by the oeuvre of the Italian composer who is famous for his soundtracks to Sergio Leone's films. In particular, we owe him the partitions for spaghetti westerns such as “A Fistful of Dollars”, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “Once Upon a Time in the West”.
The great Jules Vallès once wrote: “There are people who, instead of accepting the place the world offers them, try to create their own place, with boldness and talent”. This is exactly what IAM represent...
Strongly impregnated with Oriental and Egyptian culture, the band members have appropriate aliases. On stage, Akhenaton and Shurik’n are accompanied by their three inseparable allies Khéops, Imhotep and Kephren, playing classics such as “Petit Frère”, “Le Mia”, “Demain c’est loin”, “Nés sous la même étoile”, and new songs from planet Marseille. The energetic hip hop collective is back with a new album and a tour which will bring them to the Rockhal on 24 May 2013 for an exclusive concert in our region!

PUPPETMASTAZ

Club

Puppetmastaz shows are a unique spectacle. The world's first toy band consisting of more than 20 different puppets bring their ultralarge hip hop puppet theatre to the Rockhal on 28 May 2013, presenting their new album “Revolve and Step Up”. The impertinent hand puppets around Mr. Maloke the mole, Snuggles the hare, Yoda and Panic the Pig are going to present their puppet theatre and delight the audience at the Rockhal Club with their splendid hip hop rhymes.
Puppetmastaz are a group of hip hop hand puppets from Berlin. During their career as a music group, they've played more than 500 live shows for more than 750,000 viewers all around the world, from Japan to Brasil, China to the USA, Russia to Canada and, of course, all over Europe. They've released five albums and numerous other recordings and videos, and acquired many fans. Although Puppetmastaz have rarely interacted with humans on the stage, the puppet characters have become positive role models for many of their fans.
In 2009 the band broke up to meet new challenges. Some chose the film industry, some continued in the music business and others tried their luck at the theatre. In early 2010, some of the puppets decided to perform a stage play with humans under the direction of Mr.Maloke. With the help of playwright Paul F. Walther they succeeded in writing a fantastic play, “Frankenstein's Red Riding Hood”. After successful collaboration with the Volksbuhne and Parkaue theatres in Berlin and some guest appearances, Puppetmastaz decided to create another play, “Crystal Heart”. Again, this project was a huge success. But three years after their “Break Up” album, Puppetmastaz had decided to hit the world's concert stages again.
With their new album “Revolve and Step Up” they are going to present a stage spectacle from outta space, live at the Rockhal on 28 May 2013! Get ready to be rocked by Puppetmastaz!

TRAMPLED BY TURTLES

Rockhalcafe

Trampled by Turtles is a bluegrass powerhouse from Minnesota that is rising to the top of the new school of roots music. But this isn’t your grand daddy’s music, instead, Trampled by Turtles are talking about what you would expect from a bunch of young guys: love, and mostly the kind gone wrong. Between the blazing banjo lines, expert fiddle playing and the pristine four part vocals, it seems as if these guys were born to play bluegrass. Witness their free showcase concert at the Rockhalcafe on 29 May 2013.
Progressive bluegrass band Trampled by Turtles are from Duluth, Minnesota, where frontman Dave Simonett initially formed the group as a side project in 2003. At the time, Simonett had lost most of his music gear, thanks to a group of enterprising car thieves who'd robbed his vehicle while Simonett played a show with his previous band. Left with nothing more than an acoustic guitar, he began piecing together a new band, this time taking inspiration from bluegrass, folk, and other genres that didn't rely on amplification. Along with other newcomers to the genre the group began carving out a fast, frenetic sound that owed as much to rock & roll as bluegrass.
Trampled by Turtles released their first record, “Songs from a Ghost Town”, in 2004. In a genre steeped in tradition, the album stood out for its contemporary sound, essentially bridging the gap between the bandmates' background in rock music and their new acoustic leanings. “Blue Sky and the Devil” (2005) and “Trouble” (2007) explored a similar sound.
This band is able to attain an energy on stage that can’t be found in the studio. For their latest record “Stars and Satellites”, however, Trampled by Turtles didn’t want to simply try to recreate a live show. “We wanted to make a record that breathes,” explains Dave Simonett (guitar/vocals), “musically we wanted to step out of our comfort zone.” “You know how sometimes they say ‘less is more,’” notes Erik Berry (mandolin).
Witness the supercharged bluegrass songs of Trampled by Turtles during their showcase concert at the Rockhalcafe on 29 May 2013. You have to experience their show to understand the energy and connection between the band and their audience. So bring along your friends and remember the entrance is free.

COCOROSIE

Club

One of the most exciting and quirky formations in modern, independent music, CocoRosie will be playing at the Rockhal on 30 May 2013 as part of their tour promoting their upcoming new album ʻTales Of A Grass Widow”. The American duo, sisters Sierra and Bianca Casady garnered the attention of the public not only for their enchanted musical talent and theatrics, but also for the indefinable genre that they represent.
CocoRosie grew up separately and met up again in 2003 when Bianca left Brooklyn and went to Paris where she turned up unannounced on her sister Sierra’s doorstep. They realized that they had both come to love playing music and singing. Six years and many records later the Casady sisters’ indie-folk-tronic duo has made it.
Just recently, the sisters released a track from their upcoming fifth album, “Tales of a Grass Widow”. Entitled “Gravediggress” the song is representative of the album’s theme: transformative ecstasy in the face of harmful neglect. It tells the story of an imagined conversation between an abandoned child and an outcast old woman. Just like prior compositions, it synthesizes electronic and organic music conveying a compelling futuristic, return-tonature sound.
The sisterʼs continue to find expression in progressively ambitious projects, which expand beyond writing, recording and touring their own music. In 2012, they choreographed “Nightshift,” a dance production and “Soul Life,” an opera both staged at the Donau Festival in Krems. Bianca held a solo exhibition of her artwork in NYC and the sisters performed at Londonʼs Meltdown Festival curated by their friend and sometime collaborator Antony Hegarty. This spring, along with theatre director Robert Wilson the duo unveil their work on a production of “Peter Pan” by the Berliner Ensemble.
Later this year Bianca Casady will launch “Girls Against God” - an arts and letters print publication. Linked to this project, Bianca and Sierra Casady have founded the Future Feminists. The groupʼs platform is to “free society and protect the planet from the corrosive effects of patriarchal belief systems”. The songs in ʻTales of a Grass Widow,ʼ touch on CocoRosieʼs personal response to the groupʼs feminist mission.
Experience the exhilaration of the Electro-folk sisters CocoRosie when they will invade the Rockhal on 30 May 2013.

GHOSTPOET

EXIT07

The Rockhal presents at EXIT07, one of UK’s most exciting and original artists; Ghostpoet. Heralding a new voice in street poetry, Ghostpoet is bringing his live band to Luxembourg and will be performing songs from his Mercury Prize nominated “Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam” and his upcoming new album live at EXIT07 in Luxembourg-Hollerich on 4 June 2013. With an intoxicating mix of indie guitars, crashing drums, club beats and spooky synths, Ghostpoet’s music is not easily defined, which is one of the reasons he has so many fans.
Born and raised somewhere between London, Coventry, Nigeria and Dominica, Ghostpoet (real name Obaro Ejimiwethe) was discovered in his early twenties. His rise to prominence has been swift, but given his impactful tales of everyday life, we’re only at the tip of the iceberg for what this gifted storyteller has to give.
Ghostpoet’s debut album, “Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam”, marked him out as one of the most distinct, uncategorisable and forward-thinking voices to emerge in British music this decade, and it was rewarded with a surprise Mercury Prize nomination in 2011. It was a sudden rise for a man who for whom news of a record deal came in the same week that he was made redundant from his office job in insurance.
Two years on, Ghostpoet’s creativity has blossomed even more. On his second album, “Some Say I So I Say Light”, he pushes even further in all directions, mixing the abstract and the concrete with uncanny skill. Industrial beats, sonorous piano lines and hyper-detailed ornamentation provide a backdrop for an artist who sounds ever more like a man old before his time, whether intoning words so laconically it’s virtually spoken word or croaking out sung melodies. “Some Say I So I Say Light” positions Ghostpoet alongside the likes of Tricky and The Streets; modern British auteurs who are as interested in pushing the boundaries sonically as expressing liberating feelings.
Don’t sleep on this young, inventive artist, the amazing and heart-warming product of the always-evolving British sound system culture, as Ghostpoet will make a stopover at EXIT07 on 4 June 2013.

Back after a hiatus, The Killers have ditched the disco/electronic stylings of 2008's Day & Age to get back to a turbocharged version of the hurtling sound that, from 2004, made them the hottest thing in rock. Having dispensed with the iffy solo albums, ruckuses and motivational crises of the mega-selling rock band, the reactivated Las Vegas four-piece sound bigger than ever, a gale force of sound straining for grandiloquence. Frontman Brandon Flowers enormous holler suggests a stick-thin indie frontman possessed by the ghost of Pavarotti. The Killers have made no secret of their ambition to echo around ever larger arenas, and the current album, Battle Born, feels like their bid for gigs in canyons…

Recently releasing her self-titled debut album, catch Lindsey performing her signature violin-electronic-dubstep style live at the Rockhal on 12 June 2013.
On September 19th, Lindsey released her first album, “Lindsey Stirling”, coming off the heels of an incredibly successful presence on iTunes. Comprised of 10 original tracks, the album showcases Lindsey's signature violin-electronic-dubstep style – opening with "Crystallize," her most popular piece. Lindsey has already sold over 300,000 songs, several of which have hit the iTunes Top 100 as well as the top of the digital electronic charts. Lindsey also has plans for a follow-up album of covers, putting her unique twist on everything from existing video game themes to pop music.
“My musical style is a reflection of my personality,” Lindsey shares, "and through it I hope to share my belief that no one should be afraid to be themselves." She adds "All my songs were created to depict specific themes that I pulled from my own life experiences. “Spontaneous Me” is about having the courage to love yourself for who you are."

PARAMORE

Rockhal Box

Rockhal and Den Atelier present:
The stratospheric rise of Paramore has been swift and is proof of the adage; what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. After taking the world by storm through their albums “All We Know Is Falling”, “Riot” and “Brand New Eyes”, the band is back on the radar of their fans with a new record, set for release in April! With millions of album sales and three Grammy nominations we are thrilled to announce that Paramore will be performing live at the Rockhal on 13 June 2013.
When Hayley Williams began writing lyrics for the songs that appear on Paramore’s self-titled new album, she found herself feeling more optimistic than ever before about the future of the band she has fronted since she was 15. Lead-off single “Now” - with lyrics like “if there’s a future, we want it now” - sets the urgent tone of Paramore, the Nashville, Tennessee-bred band’s fourth album. Given the choice of packing it in or reinventing themselves as a trio, Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and bassist Jeremy Davis chose the latter and made a positive, uplifting album that reflects who they are in the present.
The band members holed up to write over the past year and a half and emerged with a collection of songs that retains Paramore’s youthful spirit, but clearly shows their evolution. It’s the most musically adventurous set they’ve released to date. Which isn’t to say the album won’t thrill longtime fans. Still present is a ferocious, churning energy (a hallmark of Paramore’s sound) but the album should also earn Paramore new listeners, thanks to the trio’s willingness to explore uncharted sonic territory.
Since releasing their gold-certified debut “All We Know Is Falling” in 2005, the 3x-Grammy-nominated band has shot to international stardom thanks to a strong connection with its fans that has translated into a string of platinum and gold singles, including “Misery Business,” “Crushcrushcrush,” and “That’s What You Get” from 2007’s platinum-certified “Riot!”, “Decode” from 2008’s Twilight soundtrack, “The Only Exception” from 2009’s platinum “Brand New Eyes”, and “Monster” from 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon soundtrack.
More than anything, Williams, Davis, and York are ready to get back on the road and feel that energy coming from the audience. Don’t miss Paramore performing live at the Rockhal on 13 June 2013.

MODEST MOUSE

Club

Experimental indie rock sensations Modest Mouse are back on tour! Fronted by creative force Isaac Brock, Modest Mouse are out on the road again with a show at the Rockhal on 17 June 2013 that features new material from their upcoming album and some of the classics that made them indie darlings and genuine rock stars. Don't miss out on your chance to experience hit singles like "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty" as well as new songs live at the Rockhal!
Modest Mouse was formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington and over the last decade has become the indie rock standard and one of the few bands capable of treading the narrow path where massive popularity is possible without sacrificing their longtime fans.
The band released their first full-length album, “This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About”, on the Up label in 1996. With the release of their second album, “The Lonesome Crowded West” in 1997, the band's status reached new heights with a legion of fans and critical acclaim. In 2000, Modest Mouse was signed to Epic Records and released their third album, “The Moon & Antarctica”. In 2004 came the release of their breakthrough album, “Good News For People Who Love Bad News”, which included the hit "Float On" and has sold over 1.5 million copies and earned the band two Grammy nominations.
Modest Mouse released “We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank”, in march 2007 and immediately entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at number 1. Most recently the band released the EP No One's First, And You're Next and also reissued Moon & Antartica on vinyl.
Don’t miss the opportunity to see Modest Mouse in an intimate setting of the Rockhal on 17 June 2013 after they dazzle crowds at the recent festivals. Hurray hurray, the modest mouse is back!

JIMMY EAT WORLD

Club

Once a trailblazing name in the mid-'90s emocore scene, Jimmy Eat World eventually found a larger audience by embracing a blend of alternative rock and power pop that targeted the heart as well as the head. Now, Jimmy Eat World finally return with the release of their seventh studio album “Damage” this summer showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. The American rock band from Mesa, Arizona will be on tour in Europe with a stopover at the Rockhal on 18 June 2013.
If Jimmy Eat World will be remembered for anything, it will likely be for helping to give birth to the Emo genre at the beginning of the millennium. But don’t hold that against them, for as anyone who has given closer inspection to the likes of “Clarity” or “Bleed American” can tell you, Jimmy Eat World defies classification. The band has been nothing if not consistent, with each successive release expanding upon their signature blend of pop and punk with a bit of new wave thrown in for good measure. Songs like their infectious single "The Middle" crowned them as major figures in commercial rock.
Jimmy Eat World has gained a reputation for being a band of great perseverance and hard work. They’ve sold millions of records, have had numerous top ten singles at Modern Rock Radio, appeared on Saturday Night Live and have toured with Foo Fighters, Green Day and Weezer. “Invented”, the sixth full-length album by Jimmy Eat World, contains the signature big hooks and sing-along melodies for which the band has become famous.
With the release of their seventh studio album, the band shows absolutely no signs of slowing down or fizzling out creatively. Jimmy Eat World are apparently bound and determined to reinvent their own sound as they grow up and enter their third decade together as a band. “Damage” was produced by Jimmy Eat World and Alain Johannes (Mark Lanegan, Chris Cornell) and recorded in the fall of 2012 at the producer's Los Angeles home studio. Mixing duties were left to James Brown's (Sound City, NIN, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart) astute hand, and features 10 tracks of new material.
Damage will be supported with a world tour with a stopover in Luxembourg. The alternative pop-punksters are back on the road with a new album and a new label. Don’t miss, Jimmy Eat World live at the Rockhal on 18 June 2013.

ALT-J

Rockhal Box

Alt-J are definitely one of the most exciting new bands to come out of the UK in recent times. Joe, Gwil, Gus and Thom’s diverse musical backgrounds have helped them to merge metal, hip-hop and classical choral music into an eclectic tour de force. On 19 June 2013, alt-J will be performing live at the Rockhal, amazing the audience with their enchanting vocals, pounding electro beats and fairy-like folk elements.
Alt-J’s (∆) name takes a little explaining. Pronounced “alt-J”, the delta sign is created when you hold down the alt key on your keyboard and punch ‘J’ on a Mac computer. The symbol has a deeper meaning for the band, as guitarist/bassist Gwil Sainsbury notes, “in mathematical equations it’s used to show change,” and the band’s relatively new name came at a turning point in their lives. A unique name that goes with their unique, genre-bending sound.
From Joe’s high soul cry and Thom’s refusal to drum with cymbals, to the sparse guitars and Gus' delicate key clunks on songs like “Bloodflood”, a neat sound-bite for ∆’s music is yet to be coined, and perhaps never will be. By challenging what constitutes folk, hip hop, indie and pop music, the band found themselves in the studio at the beginning of 2012.
“An Awesome Wave” was the result and crash landed into the Top 20 whilst peaking at #3 on iTunes, making it one of the biggest debuts of 2012. An amazing first album by an indie act with little marketing spends. It caused a shockwave in the pop and r’n’b dominated charts and the release came with a plethora of amazing reactions. Their phenomenal rise continues with a nomination for three prestigious awards at the 2013 BRIT Awards. The nominations are for “Best British Breakthrough Act”, “Best British Group” and “British Album of The Year” for their debut album.
Live, alt-J (∆) continue to go from strength to strength and have received raving reviews. The Independent called their recent show at London’s Borderline “rousing, melodic and rather magical”.
Let yourself be hypnotized by their dreamlike music full of surprises, as alt-J will hit the Rockhal on 19 June 2013. Take it from us they’re going to be huge, miss them at your own risk!

TEGAN AND SARA

Club

The musically gifted Canadian twin sisters, Tegan and Sara have build an avid following of fans and fellow musicians alike. Their unique ability to bridge the pop and indie worlds has allowed their music to cross traditional boundaries of genre, from being covered by The White Stripes to collaborating with superstar DJs like David Guetta. The duo has now released their seventh studio album “Heartthrob” which they will present during their stopover at the Rockhal on 24 June 2013.
It’s hard to have a long career in pop music. Just ask all the one-hit wonders, all the sure things who turned out to be yesterday’s news. It’s hard to keep a band together, hard to hold the fans’ attention. Which brings us to Tegan and Sara, and their stunning new record, “Heartthrob”. What happened to those neurotic, self-deprecating indie rockers? When did they become so confident and radio-friendly?
The duo finished their last tour feeling oddly dissatisfied. They felt restless, couldn’t understand why they weren’t reaching more people. So Tegan and Sara took a deep breath and a long look in the mirror, and popped into that nearby phone booth and out came “Heartthrob”. The songs are terrific, full of lust and longing and regret, bouncing between the familiar poles of erotic rapture (“Closer”) and post-breakup despondency (“How Come You Don’t Want Me”), yet still bearing the true hallmarks of a Tegan and Sara record
Heartthrob gives us Tegan and Sara in their superhero tights and capes, ready to conquer the pop universe, and the new outfits suit them just as well as their old-school jeans and T-shirts. Don’t be surprised if you hear these songs in an arena, or blasting on a car radio, or leaking from a teenager’s earbuds on a bus. That’s what they’re made for. And don’t worry if you experience a brief sense of disorientation the first couple of times you hear them. By the time you realize who you’re listening to, you’ll already be singing along.
So whether you’re a fan or a newcomer to the myriad delights of Tegan And Sara, do yourself a favour and check them out when they will be performing live at the Rockhal on 24 June 2013.

PAROV STELAR BAND

Club

Austrian musician Parov Stelar has taken over the global music scene like a phantom in recent years. Through his music the modest but exceptional talent has not only gained an enormous fan base, but has also achieved cult status as a producer. His retro influenced music is borne out of an aura of elegance, wickedness and pure energy. Inspired by styles and samples from the most varying of genres (soul, pop, jazz and swing) and combined with modern beats and grooves he creates an incomparable and peerless sound. Experience the electro-swing spectacle live at the Rockhal on 28 June 2013.
The roaring 20s are having a comeback and the swinging 60s are suddenly retro? Responsible for this musical trip into the past is among others the Upper Austrian Marcus Füreder, who is successfully conquering the international club and electronic music scene with his alter ego Parov Stelar.
For his live shows Parov Stelar takes to the stage with a host of musical magicians. The performances of the Parov Stelar band are one of the most impressive live conversions of electronic music currently to be seen anywhere in the world. Brass and rhythm sections along with tour singer Cleo Panther re-invent Parov Stelar’s electro beats, emotionally charging the public in a way never thought possible.
At the centre of the show is the creator himself, guiding the musical tour de force from the DJ booth. Despite 100’s of live shows and excessive touring the band still continues to push their own creativity and break the boundaries of musical performance. Each show is uniquely different from the previous, inviting the listener to explore new aspects and emotions within Parov Stelar’s music.
His wide-ranging, individual music repertoire quickly made him famous beyond Austrian borders. Don’t miss this brilliant creative mix of Nu-Jazz, Swing, Electro, House and Downbeat live at the Rockhal on 28 June 2013 Whether it is underground or mainstream, Parov Stelar’s sound continues to break down the genre boundaries.

SUUNS

EXIT07

The Rockhal presents at EXIT07, the band from Montreal: SUUNS. With their first album released in 2011 “Zeroes QC”, a perfect mix between indie rock and electro music, they have been voted as best new band by the British weekly magazine NME. Now, they are back on the radar of their fans with their new album “Images Du Futur” and on 2 July 2013 they will make a stopover at EXIT07 in Luxembourg-Hollerich.
It didn't take long for Montreal's Suuns to resurface with a second full length, Images Du Futur, and, as one would anticipate, this latest exploration takes on even greater visceral depths. At the outset it appears we're still ensconced in the warehouse, whether it's the grinding opening explosives of "Powers of Ten" or the crude, ominous rise-and-fall riffs in "2020".
At this juncture it's clear that Suuns are a different beast now. They're tighter, slicker, and even more calculating in their approach. It's no surprise after more than a year of touring North America and three trips overseas. In 2012 they returned to the jam space. Set against the backdrop of the student manifestations, they built on their new songs and started writing and rehearsing a bank of new ones in January.
Suuns took to the studio in May, and again in September, with Breakglass producer Jace Lasek. The end result is a profound sense of poise, not only from their sound, but in their creative vision. They've been praised in the past for their compelling restraint, their ability to morph the sonic mood within a song, and this type of shape-shifting is taken to new dimensions in the slick, opiate-laden swells of "Edie's Dream." It has a fetching swagger, a dream-state motion that unifies the album and offers a soothing interlude to the harder edges sculpted earlier on.
Whether “Images Du Futur” is fuelled by the long hours on the road or the pulse of Montreal's social uprisings, it still boasts the typical Suuns-wrought iron, expanding even further on the deep-house-Detroit textures, electronic plunges and layered guitar squalls. The upbeat drums and chants of "Sunspot" are initially reminiscent of earlier call-to-arms anthems, but then venture into spare repetition and temporary collisions of pedals and fuzz.
Suuns will be perfroming live at Exit07 in Luxembourg-Hollerich on 2 July 2013, don't miss them!

THE SWORD

Club

“Apocryphon”, which literally translates to secret writing, is the perfect moniker for The Sword’s fourth full-length album. Wrapping poetic and touching imagery in a haze of crushing riffs and ghostly melodies, the quartet from Texas delivers haunting, hypnotic and heavy rock. The Sword is about to let the world in on a little secret, which they want to share with the audience of the Rockhal on 3 July 2013.
Every culture has its own set of cryptic texts. They're the forbidden tomes of wisdom which governing powers will deny knowledge of and ban. They're usually thought-provoking. They're typically dangerous. They're often revolutionary. It might seem impossible to keep anything private in the modern age of Facebook and Twitter where everyone's dirty laundry is up for a comment. Nevertheless, the most impactful art remains the most mysterious.
Coming off 2010's acclaimed concept album “Warp Riders”, The Sword approached their latest offering from a new perspective. They holed up in Baltimore with producer J. Robbins (Clutch, Jawbox) to craft “Apocryphon” in 2012. Sonically, Robbins encouraged The Sword to tap into something raw. As a result, the album echoes with insurmountable intensity. "We loved what he did with Clutch, and they highly recommended him," recalls Shutt. "He really helped us capture the dirty, grittiness in the songs.”
The Sword consistently give their audience a fully realized experience. They began turning heads with “Age of Winters” in 2006 and its 2008 follow-up “God of the Earth”. Metallica hand-picked them for a worldwide tour. Their music has been prominently utilized in films such as Jennifer's Body and Jonas Åkerlund’s Horsemen, and appeared in the last three editions of Guitar Hero.
Cronise concludes, "Music is supposed to transport people somewhere away from their daily lives. For Apocryphon, the idea was to do that in a more introspective and philosophical manner. I'd like it if listeners think a little bit more about life, their existence, and their place in the universe while taking this trip."
The Sword is most definitely a band with a strong reputation for producing high quality heavy metal, and a powerful performance is sure be guaranteed when they will make a stopover at the Rockhal on on 3 July 2013.

BOYSETSFIRE

Club

Few modern hardcore bands have fused a deep-rooted political consciousness with a passion for their musical art like BoySetsFire. One would be hard pressed to name a more sincerely socially aware band that comes to mind more quickly than this Delaware outfit. BoySetsFire have come and gone…and come back again. Still doing the rounds after reuniting in 2010, the post-hardcore veterans will finally hit the Rockhal stage on 5 July 2013 with a new record in the works.
BoySetsFire has changed the face of modern hardcore and punkrock with their highly acclaimed records “The Day The Sun Went Out” (1997), “After The Eulogy”(2000) “Tomorrow Come Today”(2003) and “The Misery Index” (2006). Not only because of the intense songs that are a big part in thousands of people’s hearts, or the status as one of the best live acts around, but also for being outspoken with their political believes.
BoySetsFire has been a band for nearly two decades. In that time, they have played hundreds of shows to anyone that would watch them, from basements to festival audiences. They lived through the terror of rap-rock, the tyranny of nu-metal, and the dark days of pop-punk.
Like the most well-meaning addict, they tried to rebuild their lives without BoySetsFire after their separation. But the lure was too much. Soon, they found themselves in the same situations making the same decisions that lead to so much pain. Before they knew it, they were on a reunion tour and found it amazing. Then they held their breath, crossed their fingers and started writing songs. What came out was music that was even more intense, more fragile, and more brutal than anything they had done before.
Furthermore, a brand new member has been found (Dan Pelic), an old member came back (Robert Ehrenbrand), a long-time friend officially joining (Rev. Chris Rakus) and the three original grey hairs Chad Istvan, Nathan Gray, and Joshua Latshaw still playing together.
Boys Sets Fire manage to find their own sound while wearing their diverse punk and hardcore influences on their sleeves. Currently, the band is working on a brand new record and we are looking forward to the next chapter with BoySetsFire. After all this time, they have not lost any of their power. Don’t miss the opportunity to finally see them live at the Rockhal on 5 July 2013.

AMANDA PALMER

Club

After Amanda Palmer has been forced to cancel her show in March, we are now happy to welcome her back at the Rockhal on 8 July 2013.
Best known as one half of the cabaret-punk duo The Dresden Dolls, Amanda Palmer is a cross-genre performer, provocateur, singer, songwriter pianist and a ukulele fan. Get ready for a grandiose show as Amanda Palmer and her raucous crew The Grand Theft Orchestra, are bringing the interaction between music, art and her fans to a whole new level. If you still have a ticket for March that has not been reimbursed so far, it will stay valid for this new date.
Coming into public consciousness in 2002 with punk-cabaret troupe The Dresden Dolls, Amanda Palmer has heaved her way to the top of the music industry's summit wearing little more than a corset and a bra. Four albums later, she and her independent attitude went solo, releasing “Who Killed Amanda Palmer” in 2008. Two self-released EP’s followed.
In 2012 she achieved what many would have predicted to be impossible; Amanda changed the music industry and, indeed, art and commerce. Palmer made global headlines with her wildly successful crowd-funding campaign, raising 1,2 million dollars by selling close to 25.000 copies of her new album “Theatre is Evil”. Full of equal amounts of synth and rock, Amanda describes the record's musical style as "crancing", when you're simultaneously crying and dancing. Along with a slew of new songs, Amanda has concocted the ultimate band in the form of The Grand Theft Orchestra.
Palmer has made a name for herself in the last few years as the exemplary social media artist, engaging in daily interactions with her fans. With over half a million Twitter followers and the ability to amass hundreds of people for spontaneous “ninja gigs”, Amanda Palmer has one of the most responsive and supportive online fan bases on the Internet.
With a handful of summer festivals thrown into the mix- all headlining dates find singer, songwriter, piano-slayer and super-blogger Amanda Palmer, and her band, continuing to promote her arguably most pop-influenced album yet, “Theatre Is Evil”.
Passion is what drives Amanda, and her success proves how determined she really is to make a difference not only in her own music, but in the way that music is created and consumed around the globe. Make sure you don’t miss Amanda Palmer together with the Grand Theft Orchestra on 8 July 2013. This is the future of music, and Amanda is leading the way.

NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE

Main Hall

Following the positive reviews that greeted the recent expansive double-album “Psychedelic Pill”, Neil Young & Crazy Horse has now confirmed details of a European tour, with a highly awaited stopover at the Rockhal on 11 July 2013. The show represents Young’s first date in Luxembourg since his triumphant show back in 1987 with his legendary band Crazy Horse (Frank ‘Poncho’ Sampedro, Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina).
Neil Young & Crazy Horse recently completed a North American tour and are next scheduled to tour Australia and New Zealand next March, before the European leg begins at the start of the summer.
Young's thirty-fifth album “Psychedelic Pill” was released in October 2012 and is among the best-reviewed pieces of work from the Canadian hitmaker's entire catalogue. The album opens with “Driftin’ Back”, a gripping, 27-minute epic which starts with an acoustic intro (the only section of the album which was recorded in Kamuela, Hawaii) before it pokes down pathways that have been hinted at before, but never fully explored. Jesus, the Maharishi and Picasso make appearances in the song, Young noting how the images and messages associated with them are invariably corrupted or misconstrued. And, he fears, his own message and art have been corrupted and diminished by the very technology that has made it more accessible.
Two other songs on the album touch in similarly expansive musical territory, the elegiac ode “Ramada Inn” and the spirited prayer of “Walk Like A Giant”. Other highlights include “Born in Ontario” which offers further detail and new perspectives to the explicitly autobiographical thread that winds back to “Helpless”; “Twisted Road” is a joyous thank-you note to some of the others who inspired (and continue to inspire) him, with Bob Dylan (“Like Hank Williams chewin’ bubble gum / Askin’ me ‘How does it feel’”) at the fore; and the title track is phased, swirling stomp in which he honours the rock ‘n’ roll spirit at its most pure.
The show promises to showcase both new material and the classic hits that made Neil Young a household name. Without a doubt the critical acclaim surrounding the tour dates illustrates just how Neil Young continues to pull massive crowds five decades into his impressive career. Don’t miss out on seeing Neil Young & Crazy Horse live at the Rockhal on 11 July 2013. This will be an absolute must-see event!

FRANK TURNER

Club

The English folk/punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner’s meteoric rise continues this year as he recently released his fifth studio album “Tape Deck Heart”. This new production is totally the kind of record we’ve been expecting from the English punk-poet. After his overwhelming performance as opening act for the Dropkick Murphys this year, Frank Turner will return to the Rockhal on 21 September 2013 with his band The Sleeping Souls.
Million Dead singer turned folk-punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner has already achieved cult status. Picking up his solo career where former band left off in 2005, Turner has since released numerous albums. He combines rock with poetry, is juxtaposing gorgeous melodies and has an impressive stage presence.
His latest record, Tape Deck Heart is a rich and melodic set of folk/punk tunes dealing with Turner's usual themes of heartache, hope, redemption and the saving grace of rock and roll. At its core, it is the kind of record we’ve all always wanted Frank Turner to make. He’s unafraid to rock, but also confident enough in his songs to display astounding amounts of fragility and human weakness in his lyrics. Now if only the rest of the world would listen and take its cues from him, we’d be set for life. The album is light on traditional folk elements
Turner’s accompanied by his usual backing musicians, The Sleeping Souls (Ben Lloyd—electric guitar, mandolin, vocals; Tarrant Anderson—bass guitar; Matt Nasir—piano, organ, keyboards, string arrangements, vocals; and Nigel Powell—drums, percussion, mandolin, vocals).
Despite Turner’s punk politics and pleas laden with heartache, he knows the guitar in his hand is more than a weapon against fascism. He explicitly compares Shakespeare’s lover Romeo with the sexual explorer and lead singer of the rock group Kiss on “Wherefore Art Thou Gene Simmons”.
With a handful of catchy folk, country, punk songs and enough charm and charisma to win over any crowd, be prepared for a promising concert, as Frank Turner will be playing on 21 September 2013 at the Rockhal. Expect great things…

ANE BRUN

Club

Hailing from Molde in Norway the sensational Ane Brun has just confirmed details of a retrospective collection of her work to coincide with the tenth anniversary of her debut album “Spending Time with Morgan”, containing rare and previously unreleased material. The Scandinavian singer songwriter will be touring Europe this autumn with an appearance at the Rockhal in Luxembourg on 16 October 2013 performing a sublime set spanning her illustrious career.
Ane Brun is a Norwegian singer-songwriter living in Stockholm. Her music and lyrics are chillingly beautiful and her extremely charismatic stage-persona and amazing voice combined with her magical guitar playing, she spellbinds even the most jaded audience.
“Songs 2003-2013” overflows with some of Brun’s finest recordings, drawing upon work from each of her albums and therefore allowing for both studio and live versions of some of her most popular songs. It also contains a handful of rare tracks, including a gorgeous take on Arcade Fire’s “Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels)”. In addition, new material is present, amongst it a re-recording of “This Voice” that reflects its live arrangement, and “Feeling Good”, a cover of the Newley/Bricusse classic made most famous by Nina Simone, and also often sung by Brun’s mother, a jazz singer and pianist in her own right.
“Songs 2003-2013” charts Brun’s advance from the bewitching, frail acoustic compositions that made her name to the complex drama of her last album, “It All Starts With One”, via increasingly adventurous arrangements and an undeniably restless ambition to explore new musical opportunities. A decade in the making, it confirms Ane Brun as an uncompromising and vital musical voice.
“I kind of told myself early on to continue doing this as long as it gave me pleasure,” Brun says, “and it still does, more than ever. I’m still fingerpicking in front of my favourite TV series or with my morning coffee, just like I did ten to fifteen years ago. And it still fascinates me, just like it did when I wrote one of my very first songs, “Wooden Body”, sometime around the year 2000…”
We invite you to be part of this great moment of softness and warmth on 16 October 2013, when Ane Brun, the Norwegian singer-songwriter will be preforming live at the Rockhal.

STAHLZEIT

Club

Stahlzeit is the best and most impressive Rammstein tribute band in the world. Since 2010 the band has been touring Europe with a new and spectacular production that outshines everything that has ever existed. Stahlzeit not only creates the bombastic live sound of Rammstein perfectly, the band even elaborates a fire show just as brilliant, compelling and spectacular as the original Rammstein. Not to mention the striking resemblance of Stahlzeit’s frontman Heli Reißenweber in appearance, voice and performance with Rammstein singer Till Lindemann.
With huge engineering of over 300,000 watts of light and sound, 15 tons of stage equipment and a completely new stage set, all highlights of the current original Rammstein tour has been arranged in this unique tribute show. The heart of every Rammstein fan will beat faster when the impressively large fans slowly set in motion to the heavy bass intro. This is the beginning of a sweaty two-hour-show.
Every big Rammstein hit will be performed. In a best-of-program one superlative is followed by another. Controlled by computers and staged by a professional pyro crew the show lives by the exact same blasts that create the same atmosphere, weight and diversity as in the original Rammstein shows.
During the Stahlzeit performance hydraulic stages will be used, light trusses will be lifted and dropped, missiles will cross the hall before the audience will drown in a pool of confetti until the band closes with the final encore “Engel”. Stahlzeit is Europe’s most frequently booked tribute band. This show will definitely break a benchmark. Only in larger halls, this production can be realized, but that’s also the case for the original.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

Club

After 22 years, the legendary band My Bloody Valentine, fronted by mastermind Kevin Shields, returns with its third studio album “m b v”. The arrival of the newest album from the notorious shoegaze band was destructive enough to nearly tear apart the entire fabric of the Internet. Get ready for an exhilarating live act as the band is on the road again. My Bloody Valentine will showcase their highly acclaimed new material as well as classics from their much-loved catalogue live at the Rockhal on 30 October 2013.
My Bloody Valentine is a band that needs absolutely no introduction. After having released “Isn’t Anything” and “Loveless”, two milestones of the shoegaze genre, the band decided to go on a break at the beginning of the 90s. However, the band remained on people’s minds as a solid reference to the shoegaze genre and as influences to numerous bands. Their long awaited third album “m b v” has been 22 years in the making, and when they released it on their website in February, demand from fans was so phenomenal it caused the site to crash within minutes.
The long wait for the follow-up to “Loveless” can only be compared to that of Guns N' Roses' infamous “Chinese Democracy”, with the difference that Axl's fans, who had grown up in the meantime, simply ignored his new album, while the followers of My Bloody Valentine, though furious at Kevin Shields for repeatedly postponing the release, waited faithfully for the promised record.
The album is, by all standards, outstanding; a worthy successor to “Loveless”, one that builds on the themes sketched out 22 years ago while at once broadening the band’s musical horizons to encompass new and intriguing artistic dimensions. The record became an instant classic, winning critical acclaim from both reviewers and fans, who immediately forgave Shields his sins of omission.
The band from Ireland resumed playing live shows five years ago. Their live shows aren't too frequent, but the group makes up for the lack of quantity with superior quality. My Bloody Valentine's live performances are legendary; so don't miss them performing live at the Rockhal on 30 October 2013.

TEXAS

Rockhal Box

Coinciding with their 25th anniversary, Texas release their brand new album, “The Conversation”, spearheaded by the single of the same name. The Scottish band returns with an album that is filled with an eclectic mix of old and new sounds. We are in luck for 2013, as Sharleen Spiteri and the boys return to Luxembourg after their performance at Rock um Knuedler back in 2011 and will make a stopover at the Rockhal on 3 November.
Texas released their debut album “Southside” in 1989, along with the debut single "I Don't Want a Lover" which was an international hit, charting high positions in Europe. Texas’s eighth album, “The Conversation” is their first in eight years and is the latest in a career that has seen the band sell more records than there are actually people living in Texas. The band’s sold over 30 million albums worldwide with a succession of multi-platinum albums: “White on Blonde”, “The Hush” and “Greatest Hits”. Spiteri also performed as guest vocalist on Rammstein's "Rosenrot" album and released two solo studio albums before the reunion of the band in 2011.
“The Conversation” is an album splitting its seams with the joy of a long-proven pop force creating a collection of songs rich enough in melody and emotion to deserve filing beside the best of the band’s previous million-selling hits. The album was recorded in Glasgow, London and at Richard Hawley’s studio in Sheffield where the seven tracks he worked on went on to form the backbone of “The Conversation”: a perfect marriage of Hawley’s 50s rock’n’roll frills and the timeless Texas magnetism to cast-iron melodies.
This overdue return in 2013 clearly redefines and confidently re-introduces the band again with tracks written and produced by singer/guitarist Sharleen Spiteri and bassist Johnny McElhone. "The Conversation" is remarkable in it's clean and concise sound. It is a proper throwback in many ways to the band's earliest soulful blues/rock beginnings.
Fans of the band will be delighted at their return with “The Conversation” and those just discovering the Glaswegian outfit will not be disappointed at their new find. Don’t miss the next big chapter of one oft he most prominent Scottish bands; Texas will be performing live at the Rockhal on 3 November 2013.

The band’s music is unpretentiously poetic - their songs reveal themselves gradually but surely, building to the inevitable moment when they hit you in the gut. The albums Alligator, Boxer and High Violet are just brilliant works of art. With Trouble Will Find Me, The National release their fourth masterpiece in a row. The National are giving faith to anyone who has become disillusioned with indie music.
-M-

Main Hall

After his last gigantic tour, -M- goes back to the essence with his sixth studio album studio "ÎL". "Back to rock’n’roll", but still poetic, urban, modern and deliciously old-fashioned. Without any doubt, -M- will continue to give us the mojo on his new tour which marks his return to the original tock band: the trio. Simplicity, energy, and generosity. Allow yourself to be carried away by daring melodies and songs full of rhythm by this excellent guitar player and show man during his concert at the Rockhal on 7 November 2013.
What can you expect from an artist, if not to carry you away into his universe, to a place where his own language speaks to our senses and emotions? This is exactly what Matthieu Chédid (-M- when he feels like it, “Îl” when he wants to) has been doing instinctively for fifteen years, with his unmistakeable voice which has chosen love as its topic – and our happiness.
One thing is for sure: -M- is ready to give and commit himself, take off his red frock coat if it starts to suffocate him, play with the image he has created, which he has lost, which he has diverted as the mad scientist from the -M- Lab, where characters are constantly being created, even if he never restricts himself to them because he always keeps moving!
"ÎL" is alive and kicking as ever with his sixth studio album. If any confirmation was required after the years which have passed since Le Baptême, this would be it.
Is it the influence of Los Angeles, where -M- has been living for a while and where he has met his new playmates who he registered the album with? Is it the maturity of a man who has just turned forty, only a man, just a man?
It doesn't even matter! What is essential is that -M- still amazes us. Once more, he was able to avoid the traps of comfort and being sedated by success. He continued to look forward, met other musicians, had the courage to jeopardise his artistic future by changing collaborators, opening up new horizons and returning with more energy and, let's dare to say, more virility than ever.
With "ÎL", -M- has released a solar saga and dreams about a full rotation of the earth. Come discover the return to the original rock band: simplicity, energy and generosity with -M- at the Rockhal on 7 November 2013.

NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS

Rockhal Box

Nick Cave is perhaps Australia’s greatest, darkest export. A singular, idiosyncratic rock god, Cave is a cavern-deep-voiced, stony-faced preacher from Warracknabeal, Australia. He is unlike any other front man in music. Even the most earnest pale in comparison to the way Cave - and his band, The Bad Seeds – commits so fully to his howling sermons on the end of the world, love, and murder, in a way that convinces you he’s lead the most interesting life of anyone, ever. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have now released their 15th studio album, Push The Sky Away. At the heart of it is a naturalism and warmth that makes it the most subtly beautiful of all the Bad Seeds albums. Consequently Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds are headlining this year's most important music festivals such as Primavera in Spain or Coachella in California. The A is very proud to promote this band's first Luxembourg headline show!

SONIC VISIONS: HURTS...

Rockhal

The Rockhal is proud to present the 6th anniversary edition of SONIC VISIONS. What's it all about? - It's a conference dedicated to all of you that share the experience of being involved in the music industry no matter at what level. BUT it's mainly about discovering new exciting bands. So get ready for two days of fresh new music. Brought to you by Den Atelier, HURTS will play the Rockhal on Friday 22 November. More acts will be confirmed very soon!
HURTS
Hurts are back on the airwaves worldwide with their epic new album, Exile, and its first hit single, Miracle. The ultimately suave synth duo from Manchester, Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson, take things in a darker and - subtly nuanced - heavier direction. With lyrics about sadism, sickness, possessiveness and envy, Exile employs greater variety than Happiness, their debut featuring the hit singles Wonderful World and Stay. Exile goes from acoustic grand piano to what sounds like electric guitar, but without sacrificing any of the grandeur. Exile is often reminiscent of Soft Cell or late 1980s Depeche Mode and it's on close personal terms with absolute pop magnificence.<link http://www.informationhurts.com/gb/splash/ _blank>
http://www.informationhurts.com

LESLIE CLIO
From the moment Leslie Clio starts singing on her debut single, „Told You So,“ it’s clear that she’s captured the essence of great soul music and updated it for a new era. It’s Leslie’s self-written lyrics and take-charge singing performance that announce the arrival of a bold and refreshing new musical artist. Leslie Clio oozes the type of soul and authenticity that her forbears like Dusty Springfield or Lauryn Hill had. Some may see a young blonde woman and decide to call Leslie’s music blue-eyed soul, but it’s not cold, manufactured or distant. Leslie Clio is as direct as a 3 a.m. come-hither stare or a slap in the face. It’s bloodshot-eyed soul. This authenticity gives her an air of confidence that’s rare in these days of anonymous pop packaging.

MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY

Mutiny On The Bounty are enjoying European-wide critical acclaim to their brilliant new album "Trials", delivering their own unique brand of Minus The Bear/Fall Of Troy-esque ‘math-rock’. The Matt Bayles (Mastodon/Fall Of Troy/Pearl Jam) produced album, recorded in Seattle, shows the band at their best balancing cutting, aggressively edged guitars, soaring melodies with new electronic elements, while always keeping an organic feel to their complex musical delivery. Last summer, the band played numerous festival across Europe sharing the stage with the likes of Biffy Clyro and Refused. On stage MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY is a force to reckon that will leave the crowd of the Sonic Visions tongue-tied.

SIGUR ROS
Iceland’s ethereal Sigur Rós back in Luxembourg! The band’s mind-blowingly atmospheric live shows are alternately sung in Icelandic and "Hopelandic," a language they invented. Sigur Rós is meaningful art, inspired from the land of ice, one of the most scenically beautiful spots on the planet. Sigur Rós is touring the world in 2013 with a new live show, stunning visuals, an 11-piece live band and new material besides all their classics.

GIRLS IN HAWAII
Belgian indie pop outfit Girls in Hawaii formed in 2000 and the group's heady blend of neo-psychedelic pop and alternative rock drew comparisons to Grandaddy, the Flaming Lips, and Blonde Redhead in the French media, and by 2002 the band had signed with Brussels-based 62TV Records. Girls in Hawaii released “From Here to There” in 2003, followed by “Plan Your Escape” in 2008. The band offers a pure and atmospheric music, with pop notes, but with the electronic mind. The melodies are terribly efficient. Now, Girls In Hawaii is happy to announce that they've started to work on new album.

DEAR READER
The young artist from Johannesburg, South Africa, will introduce you to her intimate universe with the enchanting music of her new album "Rivonia". Cherilyn MacNeil is a singer, compositor and songwriter and will come to Luxembourg with a new album full of charm. With a voice comparable to Kate Bush, she will surprise you and bring you closer to her world of pop and folk pleasure. Her latest record “Rivonia” includes original songs and a whole lot of South African history. After the dense textures of 2010’s Brent Knopf helmed “Idealistic Animals,” MacNeil chose to focus on a few key elements: voice, piano, percussion and recorded much of the album in her own apartment, bringing in friends to perform the parts she’d constructed alone with little more than her voice. <link http://dearreadermusic.com/ _blank>http://dearreadermusic.com/

SYNTHESIS
The fresh Trip-Pop duo from Luxembourg is the collaboration between Deborah Lehnen (vocals - synthesizers) and Michael Galetto (drum machines - synthesizers) aka [vwaz] which have been evolving in many side-projects since the early 00's. Very inspired by the sounds of 80's, Hip Hop, Soul and Electronic music, they created a universe of their own, by mixing heavy beats, samples and soulful vocals. [vwaz] is creating songs that remind you of movie soundtracks. 'Short and eclectic' might be the point of order. Combined with Deborah Lehnen’s voice, Synthesis is the perfect mix between pop, underground & experimental electronic music. Their debut EP “Human” is out now!

AIRBOURNE

Club

Airbourne is the walking, talking, living, breathing, screaming, spitting, fist-pumping embodiment of all that hard rock has encompassed since the movement began. They manage to call upon the spiritual substance of Thin Lizzy, the gritty pub-crawling vibe of Motorhead, the grandiose histrionic theatricality of Judas Priest, the unifying audience domination of Iron Maiden and the sharp bite of their fellow countrymen in the legendary AC/DC. After a grandiose show back in 2010, the Australian hard rock band Airbourne returns to the stage of the Rockhal on 26 November 2013 presenting their brand new album “Black Dog Barking”.
“Black Dog Barking”, the band’s triumphant new album, is a furious declaration of all that it means to fell truly alive in service to the great spirit of rock n’ roll music. Airbourne’s third records is nothing less than the sum total of all that Airbourne has aspired to since the band formed in Warrnambool,Victoria, Autralia, ten years ago.
Singer and guitarist Joel O’Keeffe discussed their unique method in approach to writing the song for this album: “We would record a bit of the song at rehearsal and then Ryan and I would just drive around in a car: We’d be digging through lyrics and shooting out ideas,” Joel explains of the process that resulted in the future Airbourne classics found on “Black Dog Barking”.
Musically and thematically, the album gets to the very essence of what Airbourne has been about since the guys first strapped on their instruments. “You gotta rock on your way through the bullshit, basically,” Joel says. “we need to take no bullshit. We need to defend every band’s right to rock n’ roll and everyone that wants to play rock n’ roll should be allowed to play it as loud as they want.”
Their new album is without a doubt one of the most honest rock n’ roll records available at the moment. “ It’s everything we’ve got to give,” Joel declares. “We put our heart and soul into this one. If you love rock n’ roll, you’re gonna love this.
Prepare yourselves for some serious head banging because Airbourne will be playing live at the Rockhal on 26 November 2013! No doubt that this Australian hard rock band will saturate Luxembourg with their enormous amount of energy and serious rock'n'roll.

Just over a year ago Imagine Dragons were but a tiny blip on an ever-expanding musical radar. With their debut album Night Visions... Boom! In the language of smartphone app development, Imagine Dragons were "born global", ready to be played from Seattle to Sydney. On Hear Me, they out-Killer the Killers. They have successfully assimilated the hushed American gothic of Arcade Fire, the democratising hoedown of Mumford & Sons, and the polite triumphalism of Coldplay. It's an impressive, almost overwhelming synthesis of commercial influences, including, in their monster hit Radioactive, some rather mannered dubstep wubs.

CHAKUZA

Club

Chakuza didn't take the easy way out. Even if he is firmly established in German-speaking hip hop and if gangsta rap still breaks sales records, this Austrian rapper managed to get out of the pigeonhole he never wanted to be in with his new album "Magnolia". After a creative break, Chazuka releases an extremely intimate album which is currently one of most discussed German rap records. On 6 December 2013 Chakuza will present his best album so far to the Rockhal's audience in Luxembourg.
In the proper meaning of the word, an album is a collection box in book form. It has pages for memories and for written comments, which you can dig out at some point in the future. Chakuza has recorded a new album - but its not just a successor, in fact it's his best album so far. Somehow it's also a photo album filled with lifeblood and lots of audible and sensible memories.
"Magnolia" was meant to be different from all other Chakuza records. Yet he didn't know how at the beginning. Anyone can play the guitar - but Stickle and Steddy, who've also worked together with Casper, excelled themselves once more.
This album is not meant as emotional stress management for teenagers who are in their third mid-life crises at the age of 14, it's not a soundtrack for petty crooks with a Napoleon complex, its a record portraying an adult man and his struggle in a world which seems terribly grey to him. The stories of a man whose view is never transfigured nor impaired. The grey edges are coloured in gold and show the beauty of what once was and what shall be again soon.
"Magnolia" is full of longing, wishes and fantasies we all know: Be a child again, leave the life we live behind us, start again, do some things again, get out of the rat race. Chakuza has recorded an album which has no equal in German speaking rap music. Chazuka's narrative talent and visually stunning language are as unique as his musical skills.
Austrian rapper Chakuza from Berlin has freed himself and arrived where he belongs, and where he comes from: close to himself. Come discover this extraordinary concert at the Rockhal on 6th December 2013.

KATIE MELUA

Main Hall

Katie Melua has cemented her place as a much-loved singer with a unique voice and a catalogue of intriguing, signature songs. Having sold more than 11 million albums she counts as one of the most successful female artists worldwide. To round off another wonderful year of her decennial career, Katie Melua is embarking on a tour with a stopover at the Rockhal on 10 December 2013. Performing the hits and favourites from her five studio albums and with a brand new album due to be released this autumn, we are looking forward to an exciting rollercoaster ride of a show!
Signed to Dramatico when she was still studying at the Brit School, Katie released her first album “Call Off The Search” in 2003. A comfortable, tasteful blend of jazz vocals, pop style, the album featured two cuts penned by Melua (including a tribute to one of her biggest influences, Eva Cassidy). The first single, “The Closest Thing To Crazy”, launched the 18 year old to a British audience and the album went to number 1.

Her following album 'Piece By Piece' and its lead track 'Nine Million Bicycles' introduced Katie to a global audience and she became the best selling British female artist throughout the world. The story was to continue with the album ‘Pictures’ and Katie was on an exciting, record-breaking rollercoaster ride involving several massive world tours, numerous awards and many special moments.
March 2012 saw the release of her fifth studio album “Secret Symphony” attaining number 1 in the Dutch album charts and number 2 in the German album charts. It’s an exquisite collection of songs that perfectly showcases that unique, instantly recognisable voice. Katie states, “I really enjoyed recording “Secret Symphony”, there is a simplicity to it that I love and the songs are beautiful to sing. Playing a song live on stage brings something new each time and it is exciting to share that unique performance, that special moment, with the audience.” Katie Melua embraces songs old and new, cleverly chosen and winningly sung. She makes each song her very own, so much so that one wouldn't know that her cover versions hadn't been written for her.
Katie Melua has sold over 1 million tickets to date with 14 album number 1’s, 58 album top 10’s and 56 platinum awards with still no end at sight. The 28-year-old artist will surprise you with songs from her upcoming sixth studio album allowing her beautiful voice to shine as well as the more familiar tracks. Don’t miss the captivating and entertaining Katia Melua live at the Rockhal on 10 December 2013.

VANESSA PARADIS

Main Hall

Tickets will go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday 22 May at 10.00 am.
The Rockhal is proud to announce the famous French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis. Six years after her last studio album, the singer of "Divinidylle" returns to the musical stage. In order to present her new album "Love Songs", she cooperated with Benjamin Biolay. A production which is full of emotions and which, once again, presents a new Vanessa Paradis. The artist is going to share this moment with the Rockhal's audience on 12 December 2013.
Six years after "Divinidylle", almost four years after her Best Of record, two years after the end of her acoustic tour, Vanessa Paradis wanted to explore uncharted territory. She had worked together with several songwriters and composers. Some songs were already waiting on the shelf… Suddenly, there was a burst of radiance. Benjamin Biolay sent eight songs to Vanessa Paradis. Not eight drafts, no. Eight produced songs which only needed her unique voice – similarly to a soft, yet rough caress or a sugar cube with a pinch of sourness.
Biolay offered to take her on a trip where everyday French pop music meets the strings of French goldsmiths from the Golden Age, where the wood of the guitars is grained with electricity, and where notes do not accept to bow down to commercial considerations… She didn't know where her next album would lead her, and it now turns out to be that rare jewel which is able to play its part without hesitating in the artistic history of Vanessa, after Serge Gainsbourg, Lenny Kravitz and -M-…
Vanessa is on fire. There will be romance, rock, confessions, romanticism, and all of it will be marked by a musician with encyclopedic talent. "Love Songs" resembles a real love story: emotions contrast and silky melancholy hides behind every smile, a brave voice wades through all fords – and even through some abysses. Vanessa Paradis never accepts easy emotions and hackneyed effects. Elegantly, honestly, gravely and generously, she confirms her status of a glorious adventurer: she did not record a set of love songs telling fantastic, rose-coloured stories, but speaking the truth, from the heart.
Do not miss the opportunity to be part of this special moment. Come experience the softness and melancholy of one of the most popular French singers: Vanessa Paradis live at the Rockhal on 12 December 2013.

Rockhal Box

The world’s only concert show to be recommended by QUEEN themselves!
“One Night of Queen” is the most authentic and most impressive Queen tribute show to have ever performed the legendary hits of the biggest British rock band live on stage.

Singer Gary Mullen, star of that spectacular show, glorifies pop icon Freddy Mercury’s world famous self-expression with the highest possible accuracy. Gary Mullen & The Works imitate the charismatic sound of their idols in the most perfect way.

„One Night Of Queen“ creates a perfect illusion, a journey through time to an era of one of the most successful British rock bands. The two-hour-concert will perform the hits of a century such as ‚Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‚Don´t stop me now’ or ‚We are the champions’.

If Gary Mullen aka Freddie Mercury is going to get the audience rocking in original outfits you will get the feeling to experience a real Queen show. Mullen looks, dances and sings just like Mercury!
SAULE

Club

After two very successful albums, SAULE returns with "Géant". A new start, a breath of fresh air which frees the singer from the confined atmosphere of "New French Chanson". He now explores new territories, at the confluent of two cultures which often ignore each other: anglo-saxon rock and high-quality French Chanson. Produced by Charlie Winston, "Géant" is an album on which Saule lets himself go and finally finds his unique and original way. He will present his new album live at the Rockhal on 25 January 2014, with his sublime and enchanting voice.
Baptiste Lalieu a.k.a. Saule is a Belgian giant of almost 2 metres – that is where his stage name and the title of his new album come from. He played in a rock band called My Second Skin which played hardcore before turning to more ethereal sounds when he fell under the spell of Radiohead. Before splitting up, the band played as supporting act for many famous bands in Belgium (Franz Ferdinand, Radio Four).
Baptiste starts his solo career, in French, releasing an EP in 2005 and his first album in March 2006, which his highly acclaimed in France and Belgium. In 2009, he takes it to next level with his second album, “Western”, which is produced by Sébastien Martel (M, Camille, Emily Loizeau). Saule is supported by two stars of French Chanson, Dominique A, with whom he sings a duet on his first single, "Personne", and Bénabar, who takes him along on his tour.
His encounter with Charlie Winston boosts his career. The latter is not only an incredible talent but also crazy about music and a very generous artist. Unselfishly, he accepts Saule's invitation to join him on stage. Both men become true complices. Charlie falls in love with Baptiste's songs and helps him select the best ones to record them (because he wrote about sixty), and finally offers to produce the album.
Without looking like he's aware of it, Saule has realised a major œalbum and blows a breath of fresh air into French Chanson. This guy still has a lot to say because it's only the first step of a giant who is ready to blow you away at the Rockhal on 25 January 2014.

TIM BENDZKO & BAND

Rockhal Box

THE AUSTRALIAN PINK FLOYD SHOW

Main Hall

The Australian Pink Floyd Show will be back at the Rockhal in Luxembourg on 19 March 2014 with their brand new “Set The Controls…” show. The tour will draw heavily from the iconic “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, “Wish You Were Here” and “The Division Bell” albums but will also feature an interactive element that will allow the audience at each night to choose the material that the band plays in certain sections of the spectacle. The band will further be performing other classic Pink Floyd tracks from many other albums with a performance that stretches over 2 hours.
Following on from their enormously successful 2013 dates, this even bigger tour will see that band bringing their meticulously crafted show to an ever-growing audience. This tour will feature the brand new interactive “Radio Floyd” format and set-list for these shows. Founder member Jason Sawford said, “By allowing the audience to have a say in what they hear, we know that we may well not be playing the same set each night. It will be interesting to see which of the songs gets the most votes and if there are differences in preference between differing cities. One thing that is guaranteed is that the music will be amazing.” Bassist Colin Wilson added, “There is so much incredible Pink Floyd music that we always struggle to choose a set list, this way we can pass some of that dilemma onto the fans!”
The Australian Pink Floyd Show is much more than a tribute to the great music of Pink Floyd, and was described by The Times as “the gold standard”. The band attempt to capture and convey the spirit as well as the sound, and slavish attention is lavished upon their jaw-dropping visuals and effects. Aussie Floyd, who have sold over three million concert tickets in their own right, are much loved for their near note perfect performances which remain true to the original. Their loving recreation of the magic of Pink Floyd’s oeuvre is unmissable.
The band have a reputation for stretching the boundaries of what can be done with the magical music of Pink Floyd, and this new tour concept shows them at their creative best. The band’s fans love what the band does and this tour format will allow them now to get directly involved and, indeed, “Set the Controls”. Don’t miss the brand new Australian Pink Floyd Show live at the Rockhal on 19 March 2014. Get ready for the most spectacular Floyd tribute yet!

Main Hall
