KITTY, DAISY & LEWIS

Club

The talented London trio of Kitty, Daisy & Lewis will be making Luxembourg swing when they hit the stage of the Rockhal on 13 February 2012. Using traditional instruments, the band is fusing old-time blues with a modern twist to make some of the best party music you'll ever hear and they are looking forward to present their latest album "Smoking in Heaven" to the folks at the Club.

Kentish Town siblings Kitty, Daisy & Lewis are a group of highly talented and original musicians who play more or less anything they can lay their hands on. From a very young age the band's performances have been blowing away and inspiring audiences, building up an impressive fan base from the likes of Amy Winehouse, Chris Martin and Eagles Of Death Metal. They have had worldwide success with sold out tours and have opened for Coldplay, Razorlight, Richard Hawle among others.

At their packed live shows there's no compromise when Kitty's howling harmonica solos backed by Daisy's solid rhythm on a battered snare-drum and Lewis's snapping guitar work drive crowds into a frenzy. The trio jump from one instrument to another, which range from piano, lap steel, banjos, ukulele, accordion, xylophone, trombone to only name a few. Joining them on stage are former Raincoats drummer Ingrid Weiss on upright bass, Daddy Grazz on acoustic guitar, and Jamaican ska legend trumpet player Eddie "Tan Tan" Thornton.

Kitty, Daisy & Lewis have now grabbed the musical bull by the horns, producing an exquisite second studio album called "Smoking In Heaven". This album takes the solid roots of their first album but then pushes the boundaries taking in the best of musical influences while still keeping that unique Kitty, Daisy & Lewis style that is just beyond words. The production and recording have been done in their vintage studio at home, using ribbon microphones and analogue tape formats without the digital interference of computers.

On 13 February 2012 Kitty, Daisy & Lewis will shake the Rockhal audience with their cocktail of dirty R'n'B & blues, whiskey soaked country, haunting Hawaiian jungle drums and Gospel fever, finished off with a punch in the face by Daisy's hard beatboxing!

BENABAR

Club

From his first record to the "Best Of" album, ten years of live performance and three “Victoires de la Musique” awards have placed Bénabar among the top French pop singers. Six years after his first appearance, Bénabar will be back in Luxembourg on 18 February 2012 for an exceptional concert. To the greatest delight of his fans, the artist and songwriter has started to work on a new album which is due for release by the end of the year.

Bénabar, or Bruno Nicolini by his real name, has set another date for his fans. Little by little he reveals more material while maintaining the surprise effect by presenting his new song “Ta main à nos enfants” on his Facebook profile. This song should enchant his fans and announces the arrival of a new album on which the artist will show a new, darker side in his songs.

Mixing dramatic elements and jokes with impressive ease, the singer surprises his audience by constantly plunging it from one emotion into another. After the success of his first two platinum albums “Reprise des négociations” and “Infréquentable”, Bénabar sold out concert halls and shared unforgettable moments with his fans.

But Bénabar is more than just a musician. He first showed his talent as a screenwriter for the famous series “H” before playing a part in Eric Lavaine’s film “Incognito” in 2009. Currently he makes his first steps as a theatre actor, sharing the leading part in “Quelqu’un comme vous” with Jacques Weber.

He was often compared to Renaud or Jacques Dutronc and Bénabar will once again share his favorite subjects (friends, girls, love, death…) at his concert in Luxembourg. Bénabar aficionado or not, prepare for a very impressive performance by this French artist. Two years have gone since his last tour and first appearance at the Kulturfabrik: Bénabar is back on track and stopping over at the Rockhal on 18 February for a remarkable concert.

PHANTOGRAM

Rockhalcafe

PHANTOGRAM, the duo comprised of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel from New York are mixing organic and electronic sounds, with swirling guitar, and spaced-out synths. You are very welcome to discover this striving young duo during their Showcase concert on 22 February 2012 at the Rockhalcafe.

Phantogram's music sounds as though as it is urban-based, despite the fact that the band calls the town of Saratoga Springs, NY their home. Electronic loops, hip-hop beats, shoegaze, soul, pop all find the way into their music. Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel, the duo that make up Phantogram grew up in the nearby town of Greenwich. They drive almost every day to a barn they call Harmony Lodge to write and record. Serving as their homemade studio/practice space /bat-cave, the barn is equipped with various samplers, tapes, records, synths, drums, and both percussive and stringed instruments. It's here that Phantogram allows their natural surroundings and metropolitan influences to meld together and create the beautiful, beat-driven dreamlike pop songs that appear on their 2010 release, Eyelid Movies.

"Nightlife" their newest record is kind of an extension of the whole process of making and touring behind Eyelid Movies, and it feels in a lot of ways like the completion of what we were doing with the songs on that album, says Carter, adding that "the two records really go together in our minds. Nightlife couldn't have been written anywhere other than in clubs and hotel rooms during this experience we've been having for the last year or two."

In the whirlwind year and a half following the release of Eyelid Movies, Phantogram have been on the road almost constantly, building a well-deserved reputation as a tremendous live band. They've grown from supporting diverse tours with early supporters like The xx, The Antlers, and Minus the Bear to playing nearly every major North American festival to regularly headlining sold-out shows on their own. Along the way, they've stopped for appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live! and drawn praise from audiences, critics, and fellow musicians.

Now Phantogram are willing to gain new fans in Luxembourg, as they will be performing a showcase concert at the Rockhalcafe on 22 February 2012. Don't forget to bring along your friends, as the entrance is free!

SHARON JONES & THE DAP-KINGS

Club

On 25 February 2012, get ready to return to soul music with the impressive voice of Sharon Jones and her rampant orchestra. Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings will play a show with guaranteed quality on Saturday, 25 February at the Rockhal.

After starting as a gospel singer, Sharon Jones quickly became a reference in soul, groove and funk music, collaborating with the genre's greatest artists (as a background singer for The Fours Tops and The Drifters, to name but a few). In addition to her incredible voice, the band consists of outstandingly talented musicians: Binky Griptite, David Guy, Bosco Mann, Neal Sugarman, Joe Crispiano, Fernando Velez, Homer Steinweiss, Cochmea Gastelum and Hagar Ben Ari. Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are featured on Michael Bublé's 2009 album, Crazy Love, in the track "Baby (You've got what it takes)".

The Dap-Kings have already been hired as session musicians on a number of projects associated with New York based DJ/producer/recording artist Mark Ronson. Most notable of these is their extensive inclusion and somewhat unheralded contribution to Amy Winehouse's album "Back to Black" (2006). The Dap-Kings were also the backing band used on Amy Winehouse's first U.S. tour.

"The Queen of funk" will present her latest album using the traditional instruments of her music style. Nevertheless, the Dap-Kings are an innovative band with formidable musicians who play the most refined riffs and an incredibly present bass… as you can see, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings won't only play a concert, they are going to set the audience on fire!

At a time where music is becoming more and more electronic, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings invite you to go back to the roots on 25 February 2012 at the Rockhal with an explosive show.

THE SUBWAYS

Club

One of the most popular young bands is stopping over on 26 February 2012 for a concert that will most certainly set the Rockhal on fire: The Subways! With their rock atmosphere and energy-laden riffs, The Subways will do all they can to keep you from forgetting them.

This powerful garage and indie rock band comes straight from London and was formed by two brothers, Billy Lunn (vocals and guitar) and Josh Morgan (drums and percussion), as well as Billy's ex-fiancee, Charlotte Cooper (bass, vocals and keys). Drawing their influence from bands such as Nirvana, Oasis or the Smashing Pumpkins, to name but a few, The Subways prove that they have the guts to increase their music's energy load while other bands soften with time. That's not what The Subways are looking for, and they're going to show you.

The Subways have gathered experience playing with bands such as Oasis, Stereophonics and the Foo Fighters. They've been on tour with The Strokes, Eagles of Death Metal, Angels and Airwaves, bands which are not really known for their calm and harmonious concerts. What do you expect from a good mix concentrated in such a young band... it's got to be explosive!

For their third album, "Money And Celebrity", The Subways have returned to their roots with producer Stephen Street (Blur, Babyshambles, Kaiser Chiefs...). In addition to this move, the band had the demented idea to have their fans participate in the album's financing after already allowing them to take part in the rehearsals and provide background vocals. This album is a compromise between their first record's melodic efficiency and the second one's rock power.

In summary: take some rock music and a barn-storming live band, mix it up and you'll get a Subways concert not to miss on 26 February 2012, at the Rockhal Club.

JUSTICE

Rockhal Box

The French electronic music duo Justice is known for incorporating a strong rock and indie influence into their music and image. On 27 February 2012, the Luxembourgish fans of Justice have the occasion to see them perform tracks from their album "Audio, Video, Disco" that was recently unleashed, four years after their Grammy-nominated debut album "Cross".

This pair of French musicians completely redefined the entire music scene one electro beat at a time, while sending the sale of leather jackets sky high around the world. Having delivered stellar remixes for Simian, N*E*R*D, Franz Ferdinand, Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Britney Spears and Soulwax, Justice released their debut album, "Cross" in June 2007 to critical acclaim.

The album, which featured the festival and dance floor anthems 'D.A.N.C.E', 'Phantom', 'DVNO' and 'Waters of Nazareth', shot the duo into super-stardom and was later nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Electronic/Dance Album". In 2009, Justice won a Grammy Award when their remix of MGMT's monster anthem "Electric Feel" won "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical".

Xavier de Rosnay & Gaspard Augé, have announced the release of their second album Audio, Video, Disco on 24 October 2011. Drifting even further from their dance music roots, the new effort is at once looser and heavier than previous releases resulting in a heady mixture of rock, electronic and pop.

"Cross" established the group as an international force and the duo have responded with a huge album that panders to no one. Justice say that 'Audio, Disco, Video' means "I hear, I see, I learn" in Latin. And now their loyal fans in Luxembourg have the opportunity to hear, see and learn that no other act can get the masses moving like the almighty Justice!

On 27 February 2012, the powerhouse duo Justice will whip the Rockhal crowd into frenzy with their blistering live set and light show and demonstrate why they are sometimes referred to as the new Daft Punk.

DREAM THEATER plus guests, Periphery

Rockhal Box

NEW DATE: DREAM THEATER SHOW POSTPONED TO 29 FEBRUARY 2012!
We have been informed by the band management that " Dream Theater need to move their show date at the Rockhal in Luxembourg from February 12 to 29 February due to logistical reasons. We do apologise for any inconvenience caused". All tickets bought will stay valid for this new date. Doors will open at 19.00 hrs, the show starts at 19h30.

When it comes to Progressive Rock bands, they don't come much bigger than America's Dream Theater. Their 25-year career has seen them achieve over 10 million album sales across the world. Now, Progressive heavy metal gods, Dream Theater, are set to hit the Rockhal on 29 February 2012 to perform their newest album "A Dramatic Turn of Events". After their powerful performance in 2007, they now return with their incredible new drummer Mike Mangini.

Dream Theater have steadily achieved a synthesis of soaring and unmistakable melody, progressive instrumentation and aggressive heaviness unrivalled within hard rock music. Their 2009 album, the critically acclaimed 'Black Clouds & Silver Linings' hit the positions in several European countries.

Over twenty-five years since their formation, Dream Theater continue to cultivate and protect their status as worldwide niche tastemakers on their latest studio album, "A Dramatic Turn of Events", which was produced by the band's own John Petrucci and mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Prince, System Of A Down).

Perhaps most excitingly, as always, the progressive and the heavy compliment one another without the risk of one overshadowing the other. Dream Theater knew they wanted the album to be both heavy and melodic (musically and vocally). It's the natural culmination of a rightfully celebrated career that has endeared them to millions of fans. The album is the perfect representation of Dream Theater for 2011 and beyond. There are progressive elements, deeply serious lyrical topics, strong ballads, some wacky fun and no shortage of heaviness.

Witness the fantastic technical skills and sheer power of these American progressive favourites when Dream Theater will play at the Rockhal on 29 February 2012. Further, they will be joined by Periphery, one of the freshest progressive metal acts on scene today. Don't miss this occasion, because Dream Theater live is something that any fan of metal music should see at least once in his lifetime.

TINDERSTICKS

Club

After several years, disillusioned crooner Stuart Ashton Staples and his musicians will return to Luxembourg and the Rockhal on 4 March 2012 for a concert of incredible sound quality that only Tindersticks can offer. To the greatest delight of their fans, they will present their latest album "The Something Rain", which will be released in February.

Their music is different from anything else you might have heard. To our greatest pleasure, Tindersticks are known for carrying you away into a universe which creates feelings illustrated by sound. It is one of the characteristics of a band that attracted the attention of film directors such as Jürgen Karasek and particularly Claire Denis who collaborated with Tindersticks for the soundtracks of four films, including "Nenette and Boni" and her latest film, "White Material". These collaborations have significantly influenced the stage concept of Tindersticks, whose film concerts that delight their fans.

Their musical style is somewhere between jazz and indie, mixed with the melancholic and dark voice of singer and guitarist Stuart Ashton Staples, accompanied by David Leonard Boulter (keyboards and percussion), and second guitar player Neil Timothy Fraser. These musicians will carry you away in their own intimate and humorous atmosphere with their style called chamber pop.

The band had six members at the beginning but reduced itself to three in 2008 and found new energy by recording its 2008 album in only eight days. With this album, Tindersticks found a certain melancholic serenity which liberated them from their mannerism, and enabled them to orient themselves towards a more minimalist and aerial style. After five years of absence, this is not a resurrection, but the accomplishment of an extremely well interpreted style that is still being honoured today.

Tindersticks from the UK will do the honours of presenting you their music and contrasting melancholic joy on 4 March 2012 at the Rockhal, for a moment full of beauty.

RAPHAEL SAADIQ

Club

You asked for him, now you got him! Raphael Saadiq who recently made an appearance as support act for Lenny Kravitz at the Rockhal, is coming back for an exclusive show. The songwriter famous for his unique and modern rhythm will make you discover or rediscover his universe on 6 March 2012.

Having collaborated with such big names as The Roots, Snoop Dog, Mary J Blidge, the Bee Gees, Stevie Wonder... and the list goes on, Raphael Saadiq feels at ease no matter what genre he's in be it Soul, R'n'B and this clearly can be heard throughout his music. For his first solo album, he has been nominated five times for the Grammy Awards. Being an artist since his youngest age, Saadiq is not an amateurish musician however besides being an author, songwriter and recognized interpreter, he further is a producer for stars like Whitney Houston among others just to mention the level of his quality and popularity.

With "Stone Rollin'", the American multi-talent celebrates his return, embracing a heavier rock sound compared to his previous albums, yet always inspired from the incomparable soul music of the sixties. This man who has not been afraid to jump in at the deep end and to rework this style is the forerunner of a new wave of artists with followers like Mayer Hawthorne or Plan B. Besides being a wide-ranging artist he's also been acclaimed as a creator of a whole genre of music.

For his highly awaited comeback, Raphael Saadiq, the artist that you requested so much, is returning to the Rockhal on 6 March. This concert promises to be an unforgettable event!

LITTLE DRAGON

Club

Little Dragon are back in the ring with their new album, Ritual Union. With its unique sound and rampant dynamics (3 albums in 5 years and countless collaborations), this band is ready to demonstrate its talent to the Rockhal's audience on 7 March 2012. They've won the hearts of some of the pillars of modern music and they'll seduce you without any problem.

Little Dragon's latest album creates the impression of a rhythmical dream, mixing R’n’B, new wave, electro and experimental pop. The opus was described as futuristic, and it mixes new rhythms with the atmosphere of their first record, Machine Dreams, which made them known to a larger audience. Since this success, the band spared no efforts and participated in numerous projects. Their eighties-influenced universe with a fluorescent background pleased Gorillaz who offered them a collaboration on the album Plastic Beach, as well as Dave Sitek, producer and member of TV on the Radio for his album Maximum Balloon ("If you return"), to name but a few.

Little Dragon's very first single is elected "single of the week" in the UK. The artwork incorporates a painting by the singer's father from the seventies, presenting a band which is truly out of the ordinary. They develop with time and become what is described as a band with an enchanting sound and very distinctive aesthetics.

This Swedish band came straight from Gothenburg with its very own sound, grew bigger in 2007 and signed a record deal with the British label PEACEFROG RECORDS. Yukimi Nagano (vocals and percussion), Erik Bodin (drums), Fredrik Källgren Wallin (bass) and Håkan Wirenstrand (keyboard) have met at high school and never separated ever since. They love their environment too much to let go of each other. Their studio proves it: it's their old flat. This may be an explanation for their unique music which becomes indispensable to hear and see because Little Dragon are more than music, they have created a universe of their own.

Some might think that their live performance is directed to a certain degree by improvisation. But then they didn't count on the singer with her discrete and unmistakable voice and the impressively rigorous musicians. They never improvise and calculate every little detail to create a perfect show. This eclectic fusion between electronic music and other inspirations from the eighties will enchant you with an exceptional concert on Wednesday, 7 March, at the Rockhal.

CHRIS REA

Main Hall

One of UK’s most foremost singers, songwriters and guitarists Chris Rea is set to return to the Rockhal on 10 March 2012 for the biggest pleasure of his fans. Recognisable for his distinctive, raspy voice and signature slide guitar, Rea’s performances at the Rockhal in 2006 and 2008 remained memorable in every aspect. Now he returns with the release of his first new material in over a decade.

In summary, Chris Rea's career spans 25 years, 23 albums and numerous singles and tours. Both the Road To Hell in 1989 and Auberge in 1991 debuted at No.1 in the UK, cementing his position as arguably one of the country’s best musicians and songwriters.

His journey into music has transcended into a variety of musical genres, including pop, rock, classical, jazz, and the blues. Rea’s rich catalogue includes such classic songs as Fool (If You Think It's Over), On The Beach, Let's Dance, Josephine, Stainsby Girls and I Can Hear Your Heartbeat, Working On It, The Road To Hell (Part 2), Auberge, God’s Great Banana Skin and Julia.

The 2012 European Tour will be in support of his new elaborate 3CD & 2DVD The Santo Spirito Project being released in September 2011. The box will include a brand new studio album and 2 bespoke feature films on DVD, written and directed by Chris. The first feature is a raw and brutally honest chronicle on bullfighting and features neo-classical and Spanish themed gypsy music and the second feature follows a man through the city of Florence in his search for the truth, on a journey which he may or may not wish he began.

Chris told the BBC News last year “ I cannot be bothered just making a CD any more. It has got to be something more interesting for me than just 10 tracks on CD“ and his vision to offer more than just his trademark slide guitar blues/rock is illustrated in the creative breadth and depth of The Santo Spirito Project.

Chris Rea remains one of the finest rock singers around and you have the opportunity to see him performing live on 10 March 2012 at the Rockhal. And by the way, 2012 will also be the publishing year of Chris Rea’s long awaited autobiography The Road To Hell & Back Again.

TALIB KWELI

Club

Ever since emerging as a member of Black Star in the late 90's, Talib Kweli is one of the few artists making commercially viable music that matters. The Brooklyn rapper's hard-hitting music has been able to educate and entertain simultaneously and on 15 March 2012, the Brooklyn born MC will be bringing his socially conscious rhymes to the Club of the Rockhal.

Kweli's work with Mos Def on the famed album, "Black Star" still stands as one of hip-hop's premier collaborations and was instantly hailed by critics upon its release. Regarded as a virtuoso performer that continues to wow audiences and critics alike, Kweli has performed all over the world, offering fans his unique rhyming style. Famous for his collaborations with artists as diverse as Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige, Norah Jones and many more, Kweli has had a career filled with success and innovation. So it is no wonder that at the peak of their fame, both Jay-Z and 50 Cent named Talib Kweli as one of their favourite rappers.

Recently, Kweli released his fourth album, "Gutter Rainbows", that takes a trip back to childhood while marking the newest stage in his long and dynamic career. This newest release proves that Kweli is a complete and formidable musician as it presents the depth and breadth of his experience and ability.

As a boy growing up in Brooklyn, Kweli saw gutters that ran with dirt, oil and water, revealing a shimmering rainbow to his child's eyes. Drawing its title from this memory, this album puts at the raw center what his music has been doing for years: finding and preserving the beautiful in the hideous; the rainbows in the gutter. Without being tied to any particular label's conception, Kweli is free to build his most personal album yet. Kweli's true solo career has only just begun.

On stage, the icon of the New York underground hip-hop scene is a rigorous performer that is sure to amaze his fans at the Rockhal on 15 March 2012.

KORN

Rockhal Box

On 15 March 2012, the Rockhal is going to host one of the greatest names of the nineties’ nu metal scene: Korn will be back at the Rockhal for the fourth time to play an extraordinary concert! With their new full-length studio album “The Path of Totality”, Korn is embracing the future as the band collaborated with several well-known dubstep artists.

After their amazing show in 2011, Korn are back at one of their worldwide favorite venues, the Rockhal. Infusing dubstep anarchy into their signature sound, the legendary quartet stand on the tip of a musical revolution for both hard rock and electronica. Korn are no strangers to revolution or innovation though. In fact, they've been purveyors of heavy music's progression since forming in Bakersfield, California in 1994 and becoming one of the most influential entities that the genre has ever seen.

Korn clearly earned a place in the hearts of fans across the globe. However, their third offering, 1998's “Follow the Leader”, really bridged the gap between hip-hop and heavy metal seamlessly. Numerous acts followed the leader, and heavy metal underwent a renaissance in the early 2000's with Korn at the forefront. Slipknot, Staind, Disturbed and countless others took the group as an inspiration.

However, they're now steering in a new horizon for heavy music with “The Path of Totality”. Collaborating with dubstep heavyweights Skrillex, Excision, Downlink, Noisia, Feed Me, 12th Planet and Flinch, Korn have constructed a hypnotic hybrid of dubstep and metal. Bouncing from polyrhythmic guitar pummelling into drastic electro drops, the music is dark, dangerous and definitive Korn.

"It's future metal," declares vocalist Jonathan Davis. He further mentions: "We're mixing metal and electro music, and you're not supposed to do that. Since day one, Korn has always been all about going against the grain, experimenting, and trying to take music different places. I want to change things. I want to do things we're not supposed to do. I want to create art that's different and not conform to what's going on. We didn't make a dubstep album. We made a Korn album."

And this is exactly what Korn will display on stage. Jonathan Davis’ stage presence is impressive and the band is more powerful and heavier than ever. On 15 March 2012 get ready for an unforgettable concert as the masters of nu-metal are back.

SOKO

Club

In the middle of March, a surprising and highly talented artist will perform on stage for the first time in Luxembourg: SoKo. To the greatest delight of her fans from the Greater Region, she's chosen the Rockhal for this occasion on 16 March 2012!

SoKo, whose real name is Stéphanie Alexandra Mina Sokolinski, is known for making charmingly soft songs, and for her work as an actress, she was even nominated for the Césars in 2012. Incredibly successful at the age of 26, SoKo is one of those rare talents that will give you an oxygen overdose with her English lyrics and her French accent which she stands by.

Beneath her soft appearance and her yet so innocent voice, she screams with all the hate so many girls can feel, and with jealousy that can eat any of us. SoKo doesn't live in a world that is all pink, she is also made of a lot of black and grey, as anybody, and the lyrics of her greatest success "I’ll kill her" prove it. She simply speaks about life and that's what we love about SoKo.

After starting her singer’s career in 2007, she immediately plunged into work. Her success story started with the Printemps de Bourges festivals, later she also played at the Eurockéennes, Francofolies, and Pukklepop… So yes, she has some stage experience and also some connections: for instance, she appeared on the last album of "I’m from Barcelona". Her career has even brought her success outside of Europe where she went to number 1 of the folk charts. She even has fans in the United States and Japan.

If the sensitivity of her music can touch distant countries, she will most certainly seduce you. To our greatest pleasure, she'll do it on Friday 16 March 2012 at the Rockhal.

DEATHSTARS

Club

At the end of 2011, Deathstars experienced their biggest and most important journey to date, the quintet was chosen by legendary industrial metallers Rammstein to support them on tour. Their performance at the Rockhal on 2 December was remarkable and on 18 March 2012 the deathglam pioneers will be back at the Rockhal for a devastating full-length show.

It is a ravishing rock group of many faces, with members who are as weird as they are charismatic. Death Metal, Electro, Goth, Industrial and Rock, these are the main ingredients thrown into the mad mix which is Deathstars. With an image that looks like a cloned version of Marilyn Manson or a twisted version of Kiss, and music that throws Rammstein and Dimmu Borgir into a giant food processor, Deathstars have made a name for themselves as one of Europe's most provoking bands.

Deathstars and its five members are the founders of death glam-metal, a title not just any band can carry. Live reviewers have done nothing but rave about the band. Front man Whiplasher is well known for his on stage wickedness and direct contact with audience members, often apologizing to the boyfriends in the crowd for arousing their screaming girlfriends so much.

Their latest record "Night Electric Night" is about their lives and their experiences, their personal issues and the horrordrama, which represents the manic environment that the band exists within. The style they originated with their first two albums "Synthetic Generation" and "Termination Bliss" sounds more huge and alive than ever.

Deathstars walk the fine line of sophisticated darkness with the always clear and present vibe of sex, guts and horrorish vogue. It is hellish hot stuff, but also entertaining, and somewhat frightening. Sweden's death-glammers, Deathstars will set the Rockhal on fire on 18 March 2012 with their wild, provocative and dark live show. This band certainly is about to embark on a new quest, which should catapult them even further into worldwide recognition.

BIRDY NAM NAM

Club

French quartet Birdy Nam Nam already shook up the Rockhal back in 2010 with their presence at the 24H Electroniques, where they caused mayhem and confirmed their high profile status on stage. Next year the 4 turntable maestros are returning with their long awaited album “Defiant Order”. On 21 March 2012, the collective will throw their heavy motorized electro beats to the audience of the Rockhal.

Since 2002, DJ Pone, Crazy-B, Little Mike and DJ Need, aka Birdy Nam Nam, established scratches that match their talents, to bring a unique, punchy stance to the industry. They have been following their common dream ever since: liberating themselves from the prescribed techniques and clichés of hip-hop, while breathing a deep breath of rhythm to the fragile art of turntablism. They have been collaborating with French house artists like Justice and Yuksek, and their song “Trans Boulogne Express” appeared in the movie Transporter 3. In 2010, BNN won a “Victoires de la Musique” award in the electronic music category, the French equivalent of a Grammy award, beating out David Guetta.

This year, they returned to their studio to record their third album with Parisian producer Para One. The boys and he shared common roots in hip-hop, and their unified taste for a wild synthesis of genres and vibes. The result is a rich, versatile creature, born from a continuous workout from the five artists. Their last album “A Manual for Successful Rioting” was full of straightforward, cathartic numbers, now “Defiant Order” is more into oblique, obsessive rhythms.

Birdy Nam Nam further owes their success to their impressive live shows. Using turntables as actual instruments, the collective press beats and pattern samples onto vinyl, and somehow manage to make four guys standing in a row behind the turntables look sexy.

That very charisma is what will be displayed at the Rockhal on 21 March 2012, as Birdy Nam Nam spins a progressive and hypnotic set and will offer a remarkable show, likely to amaze the audience.

SOUND OF GUNS

Rockhalcafe

Liverpool's Sound Of Guns are back this year with a new album and a tour to support it. And guess what ? They will make a stopover at the Rockhalcafe on Wednesday March 28th 2012 for a free showcase concert ! For those who like their out-and-out guitar rock, it promises to be a gig worth attending.

Straight from Liverpool, Sound Of Guns is a young alternative rock band who started in 2008. Discovered by the BBC, the radio did not hesitate to describe the singer Andy Metcalfe as " the hybrid son of Jim Morrison and Bono ". Their particularity? Playing in small rooms with the same euphoria as if they were the headlining band in a stadium!

This band was still unknown before its tour in 2009 but these rockstars had electrified their fans throughout Great Britain. Indeed, they perceive their music as a "incredible slap to british rock music'! Sound Of Guns came together with a common goal : a love for good and passionate music, and to forge a sound akin to their collective influences...from Foo Fighters to Led Zeppelin, and The Walkmen to The Doors. This diversity helps them cast off the usual sound associated with their hometown, They have chosen anthemic power chords over jangly guitars and riotous gang vocals over quirky lyricism. An experience of epic proportions!

Following the release of the new single 'Silicon', Sound Of Guns announce their biggest tour to date in support of new album 'Angels & Enemies', which drops March 5th. Recorded at the Distillery in Bath, the album was produced by Dave Eringa who has previously worked with The Manic Street Preachers and Ocean Colour Scene.

The Rockhalcafe is delighted to reveal that Liverpool's finest alternative rock band Sound Of Guns will be performing live on stage on Wednesday March 28th 2012. Don't forget to bring along your friends, as the entrance is free!

REA GARVEY

Club

Rea Garvey has a whole string of talents. He is well known as the guitarist and leader of the Raemonn band, solo artist, jury member of the casting show "The Voice of Germany" and he has collaborated with numerous colleagues. Now he has a new band as his accompaniment. With his recent album called "Can't stand the silence" he is about to do his rounds and on 31 March 2012 he will be turning up in the Rockhal.

Rea Garvey knows what the calm before the storm is. His first solo album is called "Can't stand the silence". This is what he thinks of it. What he loves doing, in musical terms, is to throw himself headlong in the teeth of the storm and face up to nature.

The Reamonn band's qualities are easy to see. In the man himself they are even more apparent. He has a feeling for melody, rhythm and rhyme. He can spin a yarn. His songs are sure hits. His fans are not going to find it hard to follow him as he blazes his fresh trail. This is because he latches on to his past experience and the feeling he has for it. What is more, he instils fresh life into it.

We see this most of all in the shape of his new album. Of course, he will be coming up with some of his songs from his popular past. We shall be hearing them at his concert at the Rockhal.

"Can't Stand The Silence" is Rea's wish for a change. He told us "each of my albums is a milestone in my development. But this one didn't have a safety net. Of course, working with a band can be a bit risky. However, if you are standing alone out there you need even more self confidence. You have to be able to exercise some self criticism. In doing this, and finding myself at the same time, I have even more respect for others".

Despite all this, Rea is convinced that moving on from his band to a solo career was the right thing to do, and maybe the only thing to do at this moment. That is why he did not find the decision difficult. It is because he prefers the storm to the calm before it. His album and his new songs convey this and his own excitement perfectly. Rea is laid back and sometimes super relaxed. Even so he is true unto himself. He latches on to the best characteristics of his career and consolidates his style.

Right through 2011 all his concerts were sold out. There are the signposts alongside his career. Rea Garvey and his brilliant accompanists are convincing. They are an exciting ensemble. On 31 March 2012 he will not be letting down his fans in Luxembourg's Rockhal.

FRANK TURNER

Club

Million Dead singer turned folk-punk singer-songwriter Frank Turner has already achieved cult status. Picking up his solo career where former band left off in 2005, Turner has since released numerous albums. He combines rock with poetry, is juxtaposing gorgeous melodies and has an impressive stage presence, which you all can experience live at the Rockhal on 4 April 2012 together with his band The Sleeping Souls.

Frank Turner’s meteoric rise to success continues this year with news of award nominations, special intimate shows, festival appearances and a fourth studio album. 2011 saw the release of his highly anticipated album “England Keep My Bones”. Frank has laid down fifteen tracks with his band The Sleeping Souls for a record with the quintessential English sound he has been searching for.

Unsurprisingly for an artist who spends the majority of his time travelling around the world, “England…” has a nostalgic feel to it – a homage to his homeland, friends and family he often has to leave behind. With the acoustic guitar very much at its core, the album is more folky than predecessor ‘”Poetry Of The Deed” and even includes an a-cappella song done in a traditional English style.

Frank was recently nominated for two NME Awards. Firstly for the impressive “Best Solo Artist” alongside Paul Weller, Florence And The Machine, Laura Marling and Kanye West and secondly for “Best Band Blog” or Twitter for recognising Frank’s openness with his fans.

It’s a far cry from his tentative beginnings five years ago when, after the demise of previous band Million Dead, Frank took to the road as a fledgling solo artist armed only with an acoustic guitar. With a DIY work ethic, and a passion for plying his trade with integrity and honesty Frank toured up and down the country playing backs of pubs, people’s front rooms and anywhere else that would have him.

With a handful of catchy folk, country, punk songs and enough charm and charisma to win over any crowd, be prepared for a promising concert, as Frank Turner will be playing on 04 April 2012 at the Rockhal. Expect great things…

Critical Acclaim for ‘England Keep My Bones’:

"One of the UK's greatest songwriting talents...these songs will be soundtracking many of our lives for years to come." - Rocksound (UK)
"Yeah, that's right: England deserves a 'Boss' of its own, too!”– Classic Rock (DE)
“England Keep My Bones is a surprisingly varied album which clearly shows the growth to maturity of the Peter Pan of folk”– KindaMusik (NL)
“Frank Turner proves that punk with an acoustic guitar need not be boring. It’s a beauty!”– Oor (NL)

PONY PONY RUN RUN

Club

On 6 April 2012, the Rockhal will host a young French band from Nantes which has a lot more to offer than its original name: Pony Pony Run Run. Flirting with powerful and sharp guitars, they are orienting towards rock music after drawing a major part of their inspiration from 80's pop. Dear spectators, prepare for a show that will blast you away.

Formed in 2005 in Nantes, Pony Pony Run Run first revealed their qualities to the internet before becoming known to a larger audience and recently being awarded the famous "Victoire de la Musique de l'artiste" and distinguished "Newcomer of the year 2010". The French trio explores electronic power pop with its tenacious guitar sound, its ground-breaking melodies, its eighties synths and the singer's unmistakable high voice. Their sound is located somewhere between Weezer, The Faint, and the Beach Boys.

Three years after they conquered the audience and press with their first album "You Need Pony Pony Run Run", especially with their hits "Hey You" and "Walking on a Line", the trio from Nantes returns in February 2012 with a new, eagerly awaited opus. Their second album, has been recorded in the south-west of France, composed on the road half way between Tokyo and Berlin and mixed by Andrew Dawson (Jay-Z, Kanye West...). The singer Gaëtan, has completed himself the production of this new album.

The production of their songs clearly has been reinforced but you still rediscover their influences of indie, pop and of course electronic music. With an album that is more orientated towards club, there are proving us again that pop, melancholy and club-music can live together.

The date's been set on 6 April at the Rockhal! Get ready for an energetic, sweeping show with rhythms that will draw you straight to the Club's dance floor. Pony Pony Run Run will stop over at the Rockhal on 6 April 2012 for a grand concert which is already eagerly awaited by the fans.

PETER DOHERTY

Club

Peter Doherty is back in Luxembourg! After several concerts were canceled, the English poet is coming back to perform for the immense pleasure of his fans on Monday 9 April 2012 at the Rockhal Club. In a classy mid tempo mood, the deep-throated singer displays all his songwriter talents in the shape of his most recent album, Grace/Wastelands. Something unique is waiting ahead.

He entered British rock history with the Libertines. With the Babyshambles he has proved to the whole world that he is a talented composer. Willy-nilly, Peter Doherty leaves no one indifferent. He played a tailor-made role in the cinema in the shape of an adaptation of Alfred de Musset's novel "Confessions of a Child of the Century". After this, our enfant terrible started on his rounds and made us to discover or rediscover his greatest successes such as "Last of the English Roses" which is very much Blur/Gorillaz, the irresistible folks songs "Arcady" and "I Am The Rain" or again the jazzy "Sweet By and By".

Doherty is erudite and has a passion for all forms of arts. He is above all an excellent composer who offers his fans all the talent he has.

He was the singer of the cult group the Libertines. It scored top sales in the UK and platinum disc (600.000 sales). Peter Doherty started his solo music career in 2009 with his album Grace/Wastelands, which came 7th on the sale lists when it came out in France. He is sometimes a tender hearted dandy and sometimes ungovernable. His pose is striking. He displays to us all his musical styles that he has at his command at one and the same time: indie rock, punk, garage rock, ska, acoustic and jazz.

This is a majestic collection of songs. They are romantic, touchingly fragile and graciously nonchalant. It proves to us once again that Peter Doherty's talent is undisputed. Our bad boy will be at the Rockhal on 9 April 2012 to give us a live performance which you simply must not miss. Reserve your tickets as fast as you can!

DIONYSOS

Club

The French rock band Dionysos is known for turning the stage into its playing field. On 13 April 2012, Mathias Malzieu and his accomplices are going to stop over at the Rockhal and give you the opportunity to discover the songs from their new album, which will be released next spring. The new opus is going to be a perfect opportunity for all fans to reconnect with this Valence-based band's enormous and emblematic rock energy.

After four years spent as an insider's tip, Dionysos, headed by Mathias Malzieu and his charismatic voice and incredible stage presence, announce the launch of their new album at their web site. They specify that "after a break which was necessary to deal with some other projects, we have now returned to the studio for rehearsal". It will be their seventh studio album, four years after "La mécanique du cœur" (2007) and two years after the release of their compilation of rare and unpublished songs named "Dionysos Eats Music! ".

All members of Dionysos have lead and concretised their own projects during the last years. Band leader Mathias Malzieu has recently published his new novel " Métamorphose en bord de ciel ". Violin player Babet has released her solo album "Piano monstre" in September, Rico and Stephan have mounted anew garage rock band: "Corleone".

Mixing rock, pop and folk without any complexes, they tell deceitful stories, full of poetry and stuffed with imagination, like children inventing adventures only with a stick of wood and a cardboard box. Without any doubt, the band owes its success to their live performance and the inspiration their universe draws from Tim Burton's films and Roald Dahl's books. Their English and French lyrics tell the story of this surrealistic universe.

On 13 April 2012, Dionysos will haunt the Rockhal Club's audience. For your information, Dionysos have intentionally chosen smaller venues like the Club of the Rockhal. So make sure to get your tickets in time because the capacity is limited to 500 persons.

SEFYU - Oui je le suis European Tour 2012

Club

Three years after his triumph at the Victoires de la Musique, Sefye has come back in force with his new album "Oui, je le suis". The rapper, whose face is cunningly concealed under his cap, will be on tour this year and will passing at the Rockhal on 19 April 2012 to sing tracks from his latest album.

Just to remind you, Sefuy made his name on the Paris underground scene and later more widely through the collaboration with successful artists (Rohff, Sniper, Passi...). As time went on, Sefyu made his name in the mainstream rap. He really got going in the year 2000. When you hear him, he sounds like he would be talking to you directly from the grave. His written command of his texts is unique. The oppressive atmosphere descends upon you. Sefyu takes us into a universe which is his and his only... His rap is still a tsunami on the French charts. This is because the artist has just come up with third masterpiece "Oui, je le suis". Before that came "Qui suis-je ?" in 2006 and "Suis-je le gardien de mon frère" in 2008.

Sefyu has now completed his trilogy with an album considered by the critics to be more mature and toned down. His album comes up with open dialogues that are openly based on social conscience. They echo the question marks hovering over France today. Sefyu is a human from top to toe. He is a thoughtful man and full of different shades of meaning. His rap is savage. His sensitive texts carry us away. His view of the world is acid. The album "Oui, je le suis", above all, comes from an artist who never rests upon his laurels. It was written between 2009 and 2011, bang in the middle of the identity crisis which was raging in France. This album is a grown up creation and its question marks are rumbling through the France of today.

Three tracks have already been released, namely, "L'insécurité", "Turbo" and more recently "5 minutes". In these songs, Sefyu, former football player and youth worker, pours forth all his concerns and shares his vision of life and the image of his ideal society.

Sefyu we can believe in. He is accessible. He is both respected and respectable. From today onwards, he has his own place among the not to be ignored giants of French music. The French rapper of Senegalese origin will be launching his songs like hand grenades in the teeth of the cliches and taboos while preaching respect for mixed backgrounds at the Rockhal on 19 April 2012.

RUSSIAN CIRCLES + Support

Club

Rockhal and the Schalltot Collective present:

Chicago's instrumental post-rock/metal band Russian Circles will perform at the Rockhal on 23 April 2012. They've already been here in 2008. Now they're back to set our stage on fire once again.

Three musicians, three different instruments and a sound that doesn't go unnoticed, that's what Russian Circles represent. Drawing their influence from the punk movement of the late seventies, their instrumental style ranges from dissonant segments originating from heavy metal to calmer and even melodious passages. Their guitar/bass/drums combo produces highly refined melodies and profound rhythms which lead to particularly energetic concerts.

Formed in 2004 by Mike Sullivan (guitar) and Colin Dekuiper (bass), who quickly recruited drummer Dave Turncrantz, Russian Circles is a trio from Chicago, just like their post-rock mates from Pelican. Their first album "Enter" released in 2006 is a brilliant example of their sound.

In 2007, Colin Dekuiper left the band after artistic differences and was replaced by bass player Brian Cook. From now on they play a more pronounced rock sound and release two more albums: "Station" in 2008 and "Geneva" one year later.

Three years and several record releases later, they're more than just an international hope, they've become a reference in metal post-rock or rock-infused post-metal, and they're now on one level with Pelican. To top it all, they've released their fourth album "Empros" in 2011. They're currently on European tour to promote this latest and pretty heavy album. With its solid guitars and blasting sound, it is an invitation to enjoy the moment, or rather moments, as there is a lot of rhythm and atmosphere variation on "Empros".

If one of the best bands of its generation releases a new album, which completes its nearly perfect discography, it is inevitable to see them perform on the Rockhal's stage.

CHARLIE WINSTON

Rockhal Box

Charlie Winston is back in Luxembourg after his very remarkable first concert at the Rockhal in 2009. On 25 April 2012, bohemian hobo Charlie Winston will enchant the Rockhal's audience with his new album "Running Still", which is just as innovative and magnificent as its predecessor.

Charlie Winston endeavors to renew the saga of the hobos, the mythical street people that were already celebrated by Jack Kerouac and Bob Dylan. Originating from a musical family background, Charlie Winston becomes interested in music very early. His reprise of "I'm a Man" illustrates a German car brand's commercial and introduces him to the public in 2008. After his fantastic success with "Like a Hobo", Charlie Winston is now back with the incredibly positive energy that has become his distinguishing mark.

If you listen to his new album, you'll understand how prolix, incredibly exacting and artistically ambitious Charlie is. At the first go, "Running Still" has the effect of a sonor slap in the face. It is even probable that you'll get used to this new sound very quickly and that you'll get back to it because the songs are simply addictive! On this luminous and serene record, Charlie accepts his capacity to take his audience on a musical journey of great diversity. And that is exactly where his art can be found: in his way of carrying us away with his amazing sonority.

The album has travelled, like Charlie. He recorded it in two parts, between Los Angeles and the La Frette studios in Paris, a magic location on the banks of the Seine. "Running Still" is one of the oxymorons Charlie loves so much (the Oxymorons was even the name of one of his first bands), and it sounds like the period of grace album. One of those records that enable their authors to confirm the hopes sparked by the preceding album.

Charlie Winston will play a stupendous show at the Rockhal on 25 April 2012. To your greatest delight, the "Frenchest" English artist ever will present his second album "Running Still"!

THE LEMONHEADS - It's A Shame About Ray

Club

On 27 April 2012, one of the legends of 80/90's indie rock, The Lemonheads, will hit the stage of the Rockhal. The band will be playing " It's a shame about Ray " in its entirely alongside other Lemonheads songs. A must for all of their fans and as well a unique opportunity to (re-)discover them!

Evan Griffith Dando formed The Lemonheads with two high school buddies in late winter '86. A few months later, they spawned what is now one of the most sought-after punk relics of the 80s, the indie EP" Laughing All the Way to the Cleaners". Mainstream media hype of The Lemonheads shifted into high gear directly and The Lemonheads kicked off !

The fifth album of The Lemonheads, " It's a shame about Ray " was an international success who has been classified as one of the best albums of the 90s by Pitchfork's Media. It was reissued with a cover of " Mrs. Robinson ", originally by Simon & Garfunkel which was released as a single.

Since his return in 2005, with the project of The Lemonheads that was stopped 9 years ago, Evan Griffith Dando, recorded 2 others albums whose the first included the name of the band to mark the event. That album showed some collaboration with special guests like Garth Hudson and J Mascis on selected tracks. With the last album " Varshons " in 2009, it was the turn of artists like Gram Parsons, Wire, GG Allin and Christina Aguilera.

This concert will not be the occasion of a retrospective of the latest album but a return to the basics for the greatest pleasure of their fans. A tour that is already a huge success in the United States will now capture you as it comes to Luxembourg. On 27 April 2012, you need to be part of this concert of a band that influenced musicians now since more than two decades!

French electronic music label Ed Banger Records is sending five of its finest DJs to the Rockhal on 28 April 2012 for a night of beats and hard dancing. For the fifth edition of the 24 Heures Electroniques, Busy P will be performing with the support of some of his label's brightest talents: Breakbot, Feadz, Krazy Baldhead and Victor Aime. Get ready for a night of dirty techno, epic breakdowns and intelligent hard electro.

In the history of dance music, there are very few labels that have generated as much noise as Pedro Winter's Ed Banger Records. From global superstars Justice, to electro pop siren Uffie, and maverick audio butchers SebastiAn and Mr Oizo, there's no denying that the Parisian imprint has redefined the sound and image of modern electronic music. The Parisian Pedro Winter alias BUSY P used to manage Daft Punk, before he started his own label Ed Banger Records in 2003. With a mix of hip hop, pop, electro, disco and rock, he was putting relentless fun and a barrel of laughs into the global club music scene. At the same time, Pedro has kept his creativity as a DJ, producer and remixer.

Thibaut Berland known as BREAKBOT initially made a name for himself in 2006 with a remix of Justice's "Let There Be Light". Breakbot is basically like Justice if they would write songs about the beach, summertime and pool parties. He won acclaim throughout the world by providing his unique Parisian touch to material of Digitalism, Metronomy and many more.

FEADZ is a true child of hip-hop. He started with scratching in the beginning of the 90's, and soon drew Paris underground scene's attention with his various mixtapes and collaborations, either rap or electronic. With a solid DJ background, Feadz is mixing futuristic electro, touches of Techno and of course, some groovy beats.

A dirty groove and some abstract beats further permitted Krazy Baldhead KRAZY BALDHEAD to make his mark within Ed Banger. There is blues in his music, but there is above all that liberty his ten years of jazz gave him. Krazy Baldhead is not a DJ! He plays live, often hidden behind his laptop highlighted by a VJ.

In less than 2 years, VICTOR AIME has become a proper character of the Parisian nightlife where he created the "We Are Underage" parties. Now he is touring all around the world for special events like the Fashion Vogue Nights Out or the Cannes Films Festival.

Anyone of those names is big enough to headline a night, so having all of the five together on 28 April 2012 in one evening, is going to be one history making and awesome event you won't forget!

Rockhal Box

On the first Sunday of May 2012, Skrillex will blast the Rockhal with core-infused electro, presenting creations from his incredibly productive discography.

New-generation artist Skrillex doesn't set any limits to his creativity, he just doesn't fit into any music style category. He even enforces his independence by naming inspirations such as The Prodigy, Aphex Twin or Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson. This proves the maturity and sheer power of Skrillex's creations, his style being best described as a mix of dubstep, electro and other, undefinable ingredients.

This creator of new sounds and noise, as he calls it, loves to remix music from artists as different as Lady Gaga or Rob Zombie, or even the Black Eyed Peas, while also collaborating with the monsters of nu metal, Korn.

Skrillex became famous on the internet by publishing some of his songs there at the beginning of his career. The enormous success has quickly led to an impressive figure of 40 million clicks up to now. Creating an atmosphere that presents a new story with every new sound, between light and darkness, this young artist will not leave you indifferent.

Presenting his style somewhere between electro and dubstep, one of the year's best DJs (a tour which is almost completely sold out proves it) is set to welcome you at the Rockhal on 6 May to make even the shiest among you move.

IMELDA MAY

Club

With her unique style and raw energy, Irish rockabilly queen Imelda May has come a long way. Her latest album "Mayhem" has been taking the music scene by storm, clearly finding an audience that isn't satisfied by most modern artists of today. For the greatest pleasure of her fans, she will be on tour together with her talented band and a stopover is scheduled at the Rockhal for 10 May 2012.

Rockabilly has a new voice: Imelda May! Already a superstar in her native country Ireland, since her debut album "Love Tattoo" hit the shelves, the entire world has caught her performing alongside the likes of Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, Lionel Richie and Meatloaf.

Surf, blues, rockabilly and a look to make any pin-up girl green with envy, Imelda has everything it takes to rock. She is inspired by the ghosts of Elvis Presley, the voice of Elmore James, the pathos of Billie Holiday... but she is very much her own woman, a walking melting pot of style and attitude. Now she will be touring with her talented band of renowned musicians: Steve Rushton on drums, Al Gare on bass, Darrel Higham on guitar, and Dave Priseman on trumpet.

Her latest album "Mayhem" sees Imelda continue to develop her unique fusion of classic musical genres. The record carries her trademark rockabilly sound but its lyrics are firmly set in the here and now. Her stomping anthems "Johnny Got A Boom Boom", "Psycho" and "Inside Out'" could be 1950s classics and her special blend of old rock 'n' roll with rhythm 'n' blues takes you on a twistin' ride, all delivered by Imelda's unique voice and lyrics.

Dublin-born Imelda May has the rare kind of talent and timeless glamour that truly illuminates the stage. You do not just watch Imelda perform, you experience it! Whether it's her musical fusion of rockabilly, blues and jazz or her burlesque-inspired performances, her appeal is both seductive and undeniable. Hold on whilst Imelda May is rockin' the stage of the Rockhal on 10 May 2012. It will be quite a ride!

BEN KLOCK

Club

Berlin born DJ, producer and label owner Ben Klock is without a doubt one of the most significant characters in techno’s recent history. A resident at Berghain since its opening in 2004, he has been able to leave his mark on the club’s unique sound, in turn the special space influenced Klock’s approach as a DJ and producer as well.

Playing techno sets full of hypnotic, deep and heavy grooves, releasing records on Ostgut Ton and last but not least the aesthetics of his own label Klockworks (founded in 2006), have earned him an excellent international reputation over the last few years. Supported by stringent and enthralling tracks, remixes for such diverse artists as Kerri Chandler, Martyn or Depeche Mode, the revered debut album “One” on Ostgut Ton and his Berghain mix, Ben Klock’s name is synonymous with the vitalization of an essential definition of techno.

His music is free of crippling nostalgia and rather wins you over with consistency, tension, and dynamics and time and time again with a sensibility, one would usually expect from house music. In this vein, Klock pursues an unexacting fusion of quantum jumps and tradition – including effortless melodies or hook lines. Being able to harmonize this method of industrial austerity, natural musicality and an impressive physicality is Ben Klock’s great art and skill.

And of course his monthly marathon sets at Berghain that escort all what’s being said with pure sound and consistently motivate Ben Klock to skip the trapdoor called routine.

SOUNDGARDEN

Main Hall

Seattle grunge legends Soundgarden have been announced to play live at the Rockhal in Luxembourg on 28 May 2012.

Soundgarden is one of the rock bands that defined the soundtrack of a whole generation, while at the same time leading trends in street style and graphic design. Since the beginning, Seattle trailblazers Soundgarden were a law to themselves, edgy, dark and deeply individual. Their savage soundscapes, coupled with Cornell's sharp lyrics and predatory roar, seduced audiences hungry for musical depth and complexity. Their sound continued to change and evolve over the course of five pioneering albums which in total sold more than 21 million copies worldwide.

Following Soundgarden's split in 1997 Chris, Kim, Matt and Ben kept themselves busy with various projects, including Matt Cameron's current position as the drummer for Pearl Jam. Chris Cornell teamed up with members of Rage Against The Machine to form Audioslave and pursued a solo career. With his solo performance at the Rockhal in 2007 he definitely showed us that he is a rock icon! Frequently ranked as one of the best voices in music history, he has successfully maintained his own unique identity over more than two decades as a multi-Grammy award-winning musician and universally acclaimed singer, songwriter and lyricist.

In 2010, it was a sensation when Chris Cornell announced on his website: "The knights of the soundtable ride again!" Their spectacular reunion was followed by a highly acclaimed headlining appearance at the Lollapalooza festival, followed by a hugely successful North American tour in 2011.

2010 saw the release of Telephantasm, a career-spanning retrospective celebrating the band's legacy and introducing their greatest work to a new generation. The album includes the previously unheard "Black Rain," which was bundled with the release of the Activision videogame "Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock", selling 1 million copies on release day. In 2011, the band released their first live album entitled "Live on I-5", capturing the band at the height of their recording and touring career.

Now, a completely new album is in the works and scheduled to be released in 2012. "There are some things that sound similar in a sense to "Down on the Upside", so it's kind of like picking up where we left off," Kim Thayil told the press.

The Rockhal is proud to announce one of the most spectacular shows of the year!

LOU REED

Rockhal Box

This summer sees one of the world's most iconic rock 'n' roll stars perform live in Luxembourg. Lou Reed, the legendary front man of the Velvet Underground, will be playing at the Rockhal on 06 June 2012. Get ready for a night of classic songs and his latest album “Lulu”, created in collaboration with Metallica.

As cofounder of the Velvet Underground, regarded as one of the most significant groups of the 1960s and solo artist, Lou Reed has influenced a wide range of rock musicians, from David Bowie to the Sex Pistols, from Iggy Pop to U2. His Andy Warhol-sponsored avant-garde rock 'n' roll music has become one of the defining sounds of bohemian 60s counterculture.

His innovative skill as a singer and songwriter of over 250 songs, including hits like "Heroin", "Sweet Jane", "Walk on the Wild Side" and his multiple musical transformations during a thirty-year career have plunged Reed into the forefront of alternative rock, from garage to glitter, punk, disco, and rap. The Velvet Underground remains admired today by just about every indie band on the planet. Lou Reed is famed for his songwriting both with the band and in his later solo career and he will treat the audience of the Rockhal with classic songs from VU, his solo records catalogue and his collaborations with famous modern day artists.

Recently Lou Reed has teamed up with best-selling hard rock band Metallica to record an album, entitled "Lulu", which surely has been one of most talked-about alliances of the year 2011. The idea for these two giants of modern music to work together was born after the 25th anniversary "Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame" concerts in New York City in 2009. Metallica singer James Hetfield, and the rest of the band played with Reed on Velvet Underground classics. After that triumphant performance, Reed suggested they all make a record together. The idea was to record a series of songs Reed had written for American avant-garde theater director Robert Wilson and German theater group the Berliner Ensemble's production of the Lulu Plays. The songs are inspired by German expressionist Frank Wedekind's early 20th century plays Earth Spirit and Pandora's Box.

Join us for a rare moment in music history as Lou Reed, punk-rock's godfather, is set to hit the stage of the Rockhal on 06 June 2012 together with his full band. Don't miss your chance to see this living legend live.

KYUSS LIVES!

Club

During their European tour, mythical stoner rock / metal band KYUSS LIVES! from Palm Desert, California made a stop-over at the Rockhal in July 2011. Due to the enormous success of this concert, they are to return on 12 June, 2012.

Incredible but true, Kyuss Lives! will play their third concert in Luxembourg. And each time, they blow us away with a selection of their best songs from their numerous albums. The Club is packed with unleashed fans, the atmosphere is devastating. What if this time, they'd play some songs that have never been played on stage, or even present some of the songs that could make it to their new album (which is due for late 2012)? A unique opportunity in a lifetime for a true fan!

Kyuss are a legendary band with a turbulent history. Formed in 1989, John Garcia, Brant Bjork, Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri (who joined the band in 1991) decided to split up in 1995, just after the release of their masterpiece "And The Circus Leaves Town". Ever since, Kyuss have been on a break, even though they're considered by many as legends and have had a major influence on thousands of rock bands.

Their increasing popularity and the release of "Muchas Gracias: The Best of Kyuss" in 2000 provoked enormous expectations among their fans. Ten years later, John goes on a "Garcia Plays Kyuss" European tour. What a success! Wherever he plays, sheer crowds of fans at every show force him to extend the tour to 2011.

During the Hellfest festival in France, Nick and Brant, who were playing there with their respective bands, spontaneously joined John on stage for "Green Machine" and "Gardenia". From this moment forth, three quarters of the original band were reunited to form Kyuss Lives!. Only Josh Homme is missing, but he was replaced by the admirable Bruno Fevery.

KYUSS LIVES! at the Rockhal on 12 June 2012, save the date. At their last show, they left a trail of mayhem and an amazed crowd. This time, they want to do even better, and they might even have some surprises up their sleeves!

RISE AGAINST

Main Hall

With hardcore anthems that raged against teen apathy in the Bush era, these Chicagoans began as a thinking punk's alternative to the chain-wallet angst of groups like Sum41 and Simple Plan. Then they cracked the Top 10 with 2006's excellent The Sufferer And The Witness and the follow-up Appeal To Reason nailed it yet again... And Rise Against counts legions of die-hard fans worldwide by now. Their songs are driven by an ever-sharpening pop sensibility. Rise Against has dirtied up the chugga-chugga riffs with the Reagan-era spit shine of bands like Black Flag, but big choruses and radio-friendly hooks still anchor their powerful skate-punk pogo beat tunes and shout-along refrains. Rise Against may be nervous about leaving the underground behind, but with sharp songs like these, they're ready for the rest of the world. Check out the most brilliant latest release, Endgames.

THEES UHLMANN

Club

Thees Uhlmann leaves his band Tomte behind for a moment and starts his solo career. This is unchartered territory for the musician from Hemmoor near Hamburg, but listeners may brace themselves for complete musical openness: Thees Uhlmann gets rid of his indie corset and swaps it for storytelling, rock'n'roll, winds, pianos and hymns. On 10 July 2012 this charismatic musician will appear at the Rockhal Club.

The sound of his new band is light, sometimes even relieved, and the cover photo of their first, eponymous album flirts with the Springsteen school of rock'n'roll. With his songs, Thees Uhlmann manages to sail round the most dangerous iceberg there is for German rock and pop music: schlager. These are the moments when it becomes clear that it's possible to make German rock music without being embarrassing.

On his first solo album, Thees Uhlmann concentrates on storytelling and takes his listeners to a journey from Paris in the autumn ("Paris im Herbst") all the way to Rome in ruins ("Rom in Trümmern"), from Günter Grass to Jay-Z (together with German rapper Casper). On "Und Jay-Z singt uns ein Lied", he quotes the Byrds and the Bible, and pulls rap monolith Casper out of the hat as a surprise guest, which provides an extra portion of depth, precision and depth of field to the song.

There is a place for naked priests and souped-up cars in his heartland. His rock music has become less indie, but wider and more opulent. The guitar doesn't always have to lead the way. Why not a piano? Or a beat? A bass, some winds? Or all of them together? This is more US than brit rock, more tomtom than Tomte. Uhlmann draws on unlimited resources and knocks on the wall of sound, blowing up dust, cracking it and rocking it. It's a walk on a tightrope, but Uhlmann dares and wins.

One thing is for sure: it's going to be a warm, cosy, and personal evening with one of the most successful German self-made indie musicians on 10 July 2012 at the Rockhal Club. A concert you shouldn't miss, because who knows when you're going to be this close to Thees Uhlmann again?
