KORN AFTER SHOW AT ROCKHALICIOUS: DJ-SET BY JONATHAN DAVIS

With its first two albums, Korn kick-started a genre which inexorably had become self-centred. With the albums which followed, it established itself as the uncontested leader of a modern, fresh and devastating metal style. The group is to be seen or indeed seen again on 16 June next at the Rockhal!

It was in 1994 that the public discovered Korn. A first deafening album disturbed as much as it fascinated. Jonathan Davis, the intriguing front-man, openly spoke then of all the demons that possessed and tormented him. Davis’s sombre lyrics, associated with the music, an explosive mix of hardcore, grunge and metal, gave the group an extremely strong image with which many young people identified.

Two years later, Korn was at it again with “Life is Peachy”, establishing its position as leader of this new genre which the press went on to call “neo-metal”. “Follow the Leader”, released in 1998 and “Issues”, a year later, hallowed Korn as the best metal group of the decade.

The passage to the new millennium saw the US group at the top of its form, and tours as well as individual gigs followed at a hectic pace. “Untouchables” (2002), “Take a Look in the Mirror” (2003) and “See You on the Other Side” (2005) were all fine successes and it was with great pomp that the group came to the Rockhal on 24 September 2005 for a blazing performance in front of almost 5,000 fans.

Although the eponymous album released in 2007 saw the group soften its formula somewhat, live the fireworks still flew: Korn had become master of the devastating live formula.

On 16 June next, the group returns to the scene of the crime for a new and explosive concert, and also to prove that it remains uncontested master of “new metal”!
