Review
On 9th March 2011, the Rockhal has the pleasure to host one of reggae’s rising stars: Danakil. This Parisian band is going to present their new album, “Echos du Temps” at the Rockhal Club. For those who like Jamaican rhythms, don’t forget to highlight this concert in your agenda.
Danakil was formed in 2000 in the Parisian region. The band began to play on numerous stages very quickly, developing a unique sound which it is still refining today.
In 2006, after about one hundred concerts, Danakil recorded their first album, “Microclimat“. This first record’s success enabled the musicians to meet many people who had an influence on their development. From the very beginning, Danakil also made their mark as a great live band. Their charisma and their collective and communicative energy became a trade mark, and their concerts attracted more and more fans.
In 2008, Danakil returned to the studio as an experienced band. They prepared the release of their second album, “Dialogue de sourds”, which is a well-balanced blend of reggae roots and modern sounds, still denouncing the errors committed by an evolving society. As a genuine musical statement, “Dialogue de sourds” remains faithful to the demanding and dedicated style that turned “Microclimat” into a huge success. Many well-known artists collaborated on this record, such as the trio Mighty Diamonds, English MC General Levy and Jah Mason.
2010 was mainly characterized by the preparation of the 3rd album. From the famous Tuff Gong studios in Jamaica to the Manjul studios (Dub to Mali, Takana Zion...) in Africa, Danakil discovered the sacred lands of reggae. The new album, “Echos du temps”, contains 14 songs and features many renowned artists. Danakil recorded their own version of “Non je ne regrette rien” featuring U-Roy, one of the most beautiful and historical Jamaican voices. Another musician who plays on this track is famous percussionist Sticky Thomson, who’s played with Bob Marley, Black Uhuru and even Serge Gainsbourg! The album also contains an exclusive duo with Winston and Matthew Mc Anuff. Traditional African chants and instruments give this particularly colourful album the finishing touch.
Danakil’s lyrics are still as committed as ever. They continue to transmit their message with their musical blend of styles between reggae and world music. This is a rare opportunity to discover new styles and become a fan. If you’re not already one, that is. Danakil’s stage energy is going to carry you away, on 9th March 2011, at the Rockhal Club.
