Review
After the enormous success of “Down on my knees”, which introduced her to the public at large, Ayo is back with a new album and tour. In May 2011, it’s the Rockhal’s pleasure to host her once again for a magnificent concert.
Simplicity, softness and emotion, those are the elements that Ayo delicately slips into her music. As a kid, she listened to a lot of Pink Floyd, Bob Marley and Fela Kuti. Some years later, she can be found between New York and Paris, carrying around her guitar and a bag of demos.
Her first singles, “Down on my knees”, catapulted her into the ears of the world. Her first album, “Joyful”, confirmed her status as a great newcomer. Together with producer Jay Newland (Norah Jones), she conceived her second album, “Gravity at last”, in a very intelligent way.
She’s performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls, such as the Olympia in Paris. On stage with her acoustic guitar, Ayo shares her love for music with a growing number of fans. Wherever she passes by, Ayo leaves the audience enchanted by her music, her simplicity and her message. When she’s asked about her relationship with music, she says: “In everyday life, you’re only half yourself. Everything remains at the surface. You hide your deepest feelings. Music is more than just representation to me, it’s not only performance: it is what allows me to be me”.
After she made herself a little scarce lately, Ayo now comes back with her new album which will be released in early 2011. It’s a great pleasure for the Rockhal to host her once again on 14 May 2011 at the Club for a very emotional concert. No reason to complain for Ayo’s fans...
