Review
During their European tour, Warpaint are stopping by at the Rockhal Club on 16 June 2011 for a remarkable concert!
Warpaint are an enormously successful band and certainly one of the most important musical discoveries of the last years. This all-women quartet from Los Angeles, influenced by psychedelic sounds, post punk and shoegazing, is often described as strange and indefinable. Warpaint describe themselves as a “moody, groovy, deep, nostalgic, and experimental” band.
But Warpaint are more than a music project – they’re friends. Twelve years ago, Theresa and Emily, two inseparable friends, decided to form a band. It grew quickly as actress Shannyn Sossamon and Josh Klinghoffer, who now plays the guitar for the Red Hot Chili Peppers joined. Eventually, the current lineup got together.
Warpaint, consisting of Emily, Theresa, Jenny Lee and Stella, is not only a band which is full of passion for music (Nirvana, The Cure…), but also tied together by very strong bonds of friendship. After years of rehearsing together, 2009 became a turning point in their career. John Frusciante, former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitar player, discovered the band and mixed their first EP “Exquisite Corpse”. In 2010, Warpaint released their much-awaited first “real” album, “The Fool”, which was hailed by the audience. On stage, Warpaint mix psychedelic lyrics and sounds with offbeat rhythms and even heavier guitars, if necessary. They create kind of a trance which transports the audience into the imaginary world of a band which is not to miss!
The band is currently on tour and will play at the Rockhal Club on 16 June 2011.
