Review
Polarsets are a promising three-piece band from Newcastle, England. You are welcome to discover their electronic Ibiza-Indie sound during their Showcase concert on 4 October 2011 at the Rockhalcafe.
The band Polarsets was formed in 2009, by the school friends Rob (vocals/guitar), Mike (bass) and James (drums). The group’s name derives from a sense of opposing ideas joined, and contrasting sounds at play. This was in part kick-started by a trip to Ibiza, where the boys were thrown into a hazy world of dance beats for the first time, and observed the power of truly immersive, communal music. It is a lesson they took back with them to Newcastle, and married to an immovable love for big pop melodies and classic indie.
Following the release of the single “Sunshine Eyes”, Polarsets have taken their elaborated dance songs on a Nationwide U.K tour and gained fans such as BBC’s Tom Robinson and Michael Evis. The single features an arresting mix of Latin percussion with euphoric dance.
After just one year together Polarsets have already shared stages with Ellie Goulding, De La Soul, Everything Everything and Fenech Soler. Influenced by everything from Amerie to The Mars Volta, their unique sound clearly comes from the heart. They further feel inspired by the intricate rhythms of Friendly Fires, the euphoric dance of Cut Copy as well as the the energetic indie of Two Door Cinema Club.
This year, Polarsets have teamed up with Kitsuné, a label they’ve always idolised, to release their first proper introduction to the industry. Get ready for the Showcase of this talented young band, as the Polarsets will hit you with their electro beats on 4 October 2011 at the Rockhalcafe. As usual, the entrance is free!
