Review

England loves them and they will certainly seduce the Rockhal’s audience. The French duo THE SHOES is part of the new electro pop scene and going to stop over at the Rockhal on 27 October 2011. Prepare for a memorable show where electric guitars leave the stage to keyboards and percussion.

Guillaume Brière and Benjamin Lebeau met at college. During this time, the friends originating from Reims formed their first rock band. But they evolved and decided to head into a new direction, towards electronic music. In 2008, the buddies chose their new band name, The Shoes, and released some slamming singles before even recording an album: “America” and “People Movin” with Primary 1, which was awarded “Single Of the Week” by the NME.

The Shoes’ music calls attention right from the beginning, Mike Skinner from The Streets names them in his interviews, they work for Shakira, Etienne Daho, Gaëtan Roussel and their song “Bored” is used for the American TV series “Gossip Girl”.

After those two defining years for The Shoes’ electro pop sound, the duo heads to East London to record their much awaited first album which was released in March. The result: 10 songs featuring Esser, Timothy Bruzon (Waves Machine singer) and Canadian singer and pianist Gonzales. For the album’s artwork, The Shoes called on Britisch photographer Gavin Watson.

The Shoes’ live shows are experiments where a DJ set and an edgy concert mix in a perfect way. This night at the Rockhal Club on 27 October 2011 is a date not to be missed for all electro pop fans…
