Review
The Scottish band We Were Promised Jetpacks is one of the newer bands on the world stage, but that hasn't stopped them from impressing just about everyone in the scene. They have shown that indie rock still has a lot of places to explore. Each new release of them is expanding their reputation and on 2 February 2012, they will make a stopover at the Rockhal in order present their sophomore album "In The Pit Of The Stomach".
Following closely in the footsteps of The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks are yet another hugely talented young band from Scotland. Assembled in Edinburgh as high school friends in 2003, their first ever gig saw them winning their school's battle of the bands competition. The win spurred them to improve their skills even more, finally leading to a record deal.
Post the release of their debut album "These Four Walls" in 2009, the band have achieved huge success touring America and Europe. Highlights included selling out New York's Williamsburg Music Hall and attracting high-profile support slots for US rock bands like Passion Pit and Jimmy Eat World. Their newly released album, "In The Pit Of The Stomach" is definitely a sustained piece of work full of fiery, muscular and hugely atmospheric epics like "Medicine", "Picture Of Heath" and "Human Error" and impresses with the sheer scale of its ambition.
With thunderous live performances matching the power of fellow Scot's Mogwai and a pop sensibility comparable to that of Foals or Bloc Party, this band has stealthily become a fully-fledged rock band: louder, wilder, avidly literate, fiercely melodic, powerfully restrained.
Now is your chance to see We Were Promised Jetpacks performing live at the Rockhal on 2 February 2012. Don't miss the live show of this talented young indie band with the ever-so-charming Scottish accent of their lead singer Adam Thompson.
