After releasing their landmark album “Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do” in 2009, the heroic production duo of Diplo and Switch found themselves boldly marching forwards. Now, as the sole executive producer of Major Lazer, Diplo continues to spearhead the current dancehall revival movement with the release “Free The Universe”. A unique musical journey that dives through a varied assortment of genres and styles, including dancehall, reggae, hip-hop, pop, and dance music, all fused together to create a sound that is tough to put a label on, and can be only one thing – Major Lazer. On 15 November 2013, Major Lazer will put the heat to the audience of the Rockhal Club.
What more can be said about Wesley Penz’s (aka Diplo) Major Lazer? The stellar producer that ended 2012 with a bang, by receiving a well-deserved Grammy Nomination for Producer of the Year for his work with Snoop Dogg, Usher, Santigold, Amber Coffman, No Doubt, and others. The journey began around the smash success of the 2009 album entitled, “Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do”, which featured the hot single, “Pon De Floor”. Since then, Major Lazer has evolved into one of the most visionary electronic music projects to date. Through unending curiosity and exploration of the vast multitudes of the world's musical heritages, Diplo has managed to seamlessly connect the global underground to the audio mainstream.
Now, Diplo is set to embark on a world tour to promote the release of Major Lazer’s “Free the Universe”. The recording includes exciting collaborations with Bruno Mars, Tyga, Flux Pavillion, Wynter Gordon, Shaggy, Wyclef, Ezra Koening from Vampire Weekend, Dev and more. Spin called the LP's first single "Get Free" featuring Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors, "a meeting point between Jamaica, West Africa, and Brooklyn."
Known for raucous live performances which feature a hype man and MC, as well as dancers, performers, and plenty of on stage antics; Major Lazer elevates the concept of the live DJ experience to a whole new level. The dancehall supergroup Major Lazer will be bringing the carnival spirit to the Rockhal on 15 November 2013.
