An evening with DIMMU BORGIR

By blending elements of extreme black metal with symphonic opera styling, Norwegian metallers Dimmu Borgir provide a sound that is both elaborate and thrilling. On 19 June 2012, the world's most successful Black Metal band is heading to the Rockhal in Luxembourg in order to deliver us a very special evening!

Named after unusually shaped lava fields and rock formations in Iceland, Norway's Dimmu Borgir is inspired by incarnations of black metal from the '80s and '90s and driven by the works of classical composers such as Wagner and Dvořák. The band's music is resplendent with its raw & melodic vocals, dark guitar work, destructive drums, and haunting keyboard melodies. Their original style didn't stray too far off the traditional black metal patterns of the age, but Dimmu Borgir got their major break as pioneers of the majestic, symphonic black metal of the late 90s.

The band's symphonic black metal sets the marquees on fire on four past occasions. Their 1997 release "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant" is still an absolute black metal classic and it broke the band worldwide. The new millennium saw Dimmu Borgir experimenting with classical influences but that didn't stop them from becoming the top-selling Norwegian band. Albums like "Death Cult Armageddon" (2003) and "In Sorte Diaboli" (2007) steadily increased the band's popularity.

Their latest album "Abrahadabra" was another success and another bold leap of progress, with musical and lyrical themes of an existential rather than diabolical nature. This album is an inundation of power, a showcase of incessant skill, and above all, an intelligent manifesto of a highly intact creative force. Majestic, evil, and pompous, "Abrahadabra", is everything that makes Dimmu Borgir the elite of the pack and demonstrates every reason why it is the most prominent symphonic black metal act in the world.

Vocalist Shagrath and guitarists Silenoz and Galder have come a long way, largely thanks to the unbending loyalty of their fans, which in turn has a lot to do with the fact that Dimmu Borgir is also a stellar live act. Be part of their show on 19 June 2012 as Dimmu Borgir will set the stage of the Rockhal on fire.
