After five years of waiting and a new album that’s just been released, the Space Cowboy announces his return to the stage. On 5 April the Rockhal is going to prepare its dance floor for the world’s greatest funk band: JAMIROQUAI...
In 1992, an Indian with a British accent appeared, wearing a horned headgear and jumping and grooving to irresistibly funky acid jazz rhythms. His name: Jay Kay.
One has to keep in mind that Jay Kay is only the Manitou of his tribe, a tribe which is just as unique as him, called JAMIROQUAI (a portmanteau of “Jam” and “Iroquai”, a Native American tribe). The members of this tribe are valorous warriors such as Toby Smith, Wallis Buchanan, Stuart Zender, Rob Harris, Derrick McKenzie and the percussionist Sola Akingbola, musicians who call the tune from the beginning, an inspirational, tribal, politically committed (at least at the beginning), but foremost: danceable and innovative style.
Their first album “Emergency on Planet Earth” was released in 1993. It was riddled with chart busters such as “Too Young to Die” or “When You Gonna Learn” and sold millions of copies throughout the world. But it was with their releases “The Return of the Space Cowboy” in 1995 and “Travelling without Moving” in 1997 and their soul and disco elements that they finally hit the planet’s dance floors and radio stations. After they had won several totems such as Grammy and MTV Awards, the Iroquois returned with the monstrous song they contributed to the soundtrack of the “Godzilla” movie: “Deeper Underground“. But their conquest isn’t over: they hit the charts three times in a row with ”Synkronized”, “Funk Odyssey” and “Dynamite” in 2001. And smoke signals have it that JAMIROQUAI are now coming back with a new album called “Rock Dust Light Star”. With its high-speed soul/funk style and Jay Kay’s warm and soulful voice, this seventh album follows in its predecessors’ energetic and spiritual footsteps.
There are not many bands in the world that are able to make thousands of people dance for hours. On stage, JAMIROQUAI play one hit after another, “Cosmic Girl”, “Little L”, “Deeper Underground” or “All Right”, to name but a few. The wizard of funk is ready to enchant you with his magic dance moves… With JAMIROQUAI at the Rockhal on 5 April 2011, get ready to… Just Dance!!!
