With more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, Tom Jones is one of those living legends whose aura and voice didn’t decline at all since the sixties. His last album, “24 hours”, is a huge success and we’re proud to announce the crooner’s concert at the Rockhal on 29 October next!
Due to a row of extremely successful singles such as “It’s not unusual”, “What’s new Pussycat?” or “Green green grass of home”, Welshman Tom Jones became a huge star in the sixties. Together with his hot, powerful voice and an up-to-date dress style, his tunes rapidly turned Tom Jones into the new ideal son-in-law.
During the seventies, he settled down in Las Vegas where he continued his absolutely exceptional career. Legend even has it that when he was at the peak of his powers, he wasn’t far from throwing Elvis from the King’s throne!
After having become a little calmer in the early eighties, Tom Jones celebrates a startling comeback in 1988 with a cover version of Prince’s “Kiss”, which he records together with the band Art of Noise. For many weeks, the song stays on top of the charts in all European countries. It opens the door for a new era in the Welshman’s career.
After several appearances in movies (“Mars Attack” in 1996, “Agnès Browne” in 1999) and on different sound tracks, Tom Jones comes back once more, hitting the charts with his singles “Sex Bomb”, a true smash hit recorded with the German producer Mousse T. Together with the following album (“Reload” in 99), this single leads to the (re)discovery of the Welsh crooner by an entirely new generation of fans.
Later Tom Jones works together with many artists, which results in an astonishing collaboration with Wyclef Jean (“Mr. Jones” in 2002), another one with the British pianist Jools Holland (“Tom Jones & Jools Holland” in 2004) and a new singles that is very successful in 2006 (“Stoned in love”, recorded with the electronic music act Chicane).
Tom Jones’s new album “24 hours” has been released only a few months ago. It’s a record that he wanted to be modern in its concept, so production was assumed by Dareen Lewis / Tunde Babalola (Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal, Estelle, Kate Nash…). Another interesting thing about this album is a song written by U2’s Bono and The Edge!
