MARCUS MILLER - BASS CLINIC

Marcus Miller, bass player extraordinaire and out-of-the-ordinary multi-instrumentalist will hold a dedicated Bass Clinic at Music & Resources Rockhal on Sunday April 19, the day before his gig at the Club of the Rockhal. The clinic will focus on Marcus Miller’s outstanding skills and technique as a bass player who has confirmed bass as a solo instrument and taken the slap technique to a whole new level as well as on anecdotes of his career highlights, like the work on the mythical “Tutu” album which he composed and produced for Miles Davis. The clinic will be rounded off by some questions & answers with the audience.

About Marcus Miller:

Bass player, multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and arranger Marcus Miller has restored the status of solo bass with his mix of fusion, jazz rock, funk, rock and blues, with an incredibly quick slap that leaves you speechless.

The mythical “Tutu” album composed and produced for Miles Davis confirmed his international reputation when he was only 25 years old. Ever since, he has collaborated with talented artists such as Eric Clapton, George Benson, Luther Vandross, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Jay-Z, Al Jarreau, Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Quincy Jones, Brian Ferry, Herbie Hancock…to name but a few. And yet he found the time to work on his own albums, such as “The Sun don’t lie”, “M2”, “Silver Rain”, “Free”, “A Night in Monte Carlo” (with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte Carlo), and “Renaissance”, which all were backed by world tours with his band of young musicians whose talent he recognised and whom he wanted to give the opportunity to express themselves. Maybe a little like a certain Miles who did the same with him and some others (Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter). His predisposition for music enabled this multi-instrumentalist to be recognised as a virtuoso in the world of contemporary jazz.
