The Australian band Pond is stoked to announce that they will be playing a free psychedelic showcase at the Rockhalcafe on 17 May! These guys are certainly all bloody talented and their show promises to be one of the most fun gigs you've ever seen.

Pond was born in 2008 under a mulberry tree in Daglish, Western Australia. The original idea of Pond was to be able to get anyone they wanted to play whatever they wanted in a collaborative musical project. Their first album was released soon after in 2009, titled "Psychedelic Mango" which contains many psychedelic and pop elements. Two more albums, "Corridors of Blissterday" (2009) and Frond (2010), quickly followed.

"Beard, Wives, Denim", their latest album, doesn't take itself too seriously, which in this case is a definite positive. The album is scattered with background mutterings between tracks, fuzzy recordings and minor imperfections, but instead of sounding too messy it comes across as a garage-rock project that was actually enjoyable to make and not painstakingly forced. "Fantastic Explosion of Time" kicks the album off, well... explosively. It's got squealing guitar riffs and acts as the biggest oddball anthem of the album, sounding like a bizarre hybrid of David Bowie and The White Stripes. Following the explosion theme afterwards is "When It Explodes", quite a bare track with soft vocals and with slightly more of a beach vibe to it.

Pond is more a love project than a serious rock band. But don't be fooled, this band is epic, and their live performances have become legendary. Bring along your friends to the Rockhalcafe on Thursday 17 May and enjoy the vintage indie rock music of this group. It will smash your ears!
